The Role
Something new and different every day, with ample to explore different departments and meet clients.
Felt very valued, everyone was overwhelmingly positive about having an intern. Given plenty of opportunity to complete work and get feedback on it.
Couldn't fault a thing, regular catch-ups with my line manager and area director. Regular intern-centric events to give a chance to catch up with scheme leaders and graduates.
Lots of varied work, never had a day where I had nothing to do or I was bored.
Plenty of responsibility given. Really appreciated the opportunity to take the wheel in guiding my internship and being able to go to different departments and speak to other colleagues.
Definitely much more confident in being able to interact with clients and colleagues. Much more upbeat about securing a graduate job and being able to succeed in it.
The Company
Overwhelmingly positive. Lucky to be in a large team on a large floor so there was plenty of social events e.g. Nights out, the races, away days etc. This meant that the atmosphere was friendly and collaborative.
Great balance between being led and being able to do our own thing. Regular catch-ups with graduates and other interns made for great guidance and comparison.
Couldn't fault a thing, a fully paid internship with expenses paid issued with laptops and phones.
Flexi Time
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
HSBC has a great graduate scheme which many interns get onto.
The Culture
Having 60 interns meant that there was always going to be likeminded people to myself and so making social connections was not a problem at all. Having regular intern events helped with this so you could catch up with interns not based in your city/office.
Already had my university house so was effectively free living for the duration of the placement. Leeds is not an expensive city for socialising in but people in the office tended to enjoy the more expensive areas of town (i.e. the area directly surrounding the office), but being paid a good salary mitigated this.
Very good, the area around the office (Greek Street) has a host of bars and Call Lane is not far away.
Plenty of opportunities e.g. 10k run, York races, nights out etc.
