The Role
It was quite good with a lot of support from the manager (weekly 1-2-1s, informal chats every now and then) and team (as we all sit quite close to each other they used to always ask how things were and offer support). A lot of networking opportunities and other things to get involved with on offer. Lack of HR 'intelligence' though. Another drawback is that you don't choose what team you're joining and the streams are too broad - for eg you apply for X, but get XY (still similar to X but is quite different at the same time)
Very much. The team sits in one room and you all chat every time. Very nice and friendly atmosphere. Could not be happier about that. Outside of the team, people are also very approachable and once they know you are an intern they offer support and show genuine care about you.
A lot of support - weekly face to face meetings and always ready and happy to chat during the week. Could not be happier about by manager. I was told I was not treated like an intern but rather a member of the team, which I genuinely felt myself. 10/10 for sure
Depends on the day. There were 2 very busy weeks, others were medium-level busy. Depends on the intern as well. Make sure you ask for work and make your team/manager aware when you think you have capacity to do more. At the end, you will be rated on what and how you've done.
I am definitely happy with the level of responsibility I was given. I was asked to lead a delivery of a small project on week 1 and 2. It felt like I was treated just like any other team member while they were always happy to offer support and never judged me.
My situation is a bit different as I study a subject which is not directly relevant to what I have been doing here. Anyway, you can ask for training and develop skills that you want to have, there is no problem with that. In addition, during your first weeks they ask you about your internship objectives where you can state what you want to learn/achieve and follow the path to acquire desire skills.
The Company
Very good - friendly people. Always smile, happy to talk. The team is very sociable and people are generally very approaching. There is a nice view from the office and a few canteens (quite expensive though). No free coffee - people beware (site dependant though as I heard some offices have it). On the other hand, more effort could be done to make offices better (eg free coffee, fruit)
There is definitely a good structure to it but it is all subjective to your manager. I was lucky and my manager followed the guidance he was given and was very organised himself, so my placement was very well organised. Some other interns however have not had much work to do (or at all). LBG takes too many interns that they can't handle at times.
A lot of training available online and the company encourages you to network with people and go explore outside the team you are in. The HR provide a lot of "extra" stuff for interns to do which seems a bit pointless, but they do. So, quite a lot of self-development resources on offer - just talk to people and ask ask ask.
They are re-structuring the grad scheme so the referral process is a bit uncertain at the moment - it seems like my stream will not be offering graduate programmes next year so awaiting further communications from HR. I quite enjoyed the internship so will definitely consider working here as a grad in the future.
The Culture
Definitely yes - there are more than a 100 of us in London with about 98 in the same halls, so quite sociable atmosphere. Although there were a few problems with people joking inappropriately on the chat and food theft. Other than that, LBG did their best to give us a very sociable student atmosphere.
London is known to be quite expensive so no comments to this. The canteens in the office did not seem to be subsidised (or maybe they were?), so the food in the office was as expensive as outside (maybe a bit cheaper). Same with shopping but it's fine; you get your salary weekly which is a nice perk.
Have not been out but people seem to enjoy it. Did not hear people complaining how expensive it was either. They put us in the halls in a good location so a lot of things on offer and a good sociable scene around. Quite happy with this, could not have asked for more.
A few team socials that I was invited to. Have not heard of any company wide social things but it has been good regardless. A lot of activities on offer from interns (aimed to raise money for a charity usually, which is a part of the internship). I am quite happy.
