    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was an enjoyable experience with highs and lows. A real insight into the world of banking risk and multiple shadowing opportunities around the bank which as an intern it is encouraged. Lots of work during the 10 weeks but also enjoyable as you have a whole intern intake you can socialise with.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The work given was of high importance and therefore had to be done to a good standard. They appreciate the extra pair of hands to help them. They understand that you are an intern and that 10 weeks to learn a whole department is quite hard so you will make small mistakes but they will tell you how to fix this.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Lloyd's is putting forward a new idea of agile working and therefore most colleagues work from home or in another country. Therefore they are not present at the office which can be annoying but if anything arose that needed someone else's help they were a phone call away and they would be happy to assist.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • As with any internship there will be times when there are lulls in work and then there are days where there every second matters. During my internship I had a bit of both but there is a lot of personal development material which they provide to do in your free time if you wish.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a project to myself which I worked through the 10 week internship. There were other tasks given to me which were of high importance but it was a bit repetitive over doing the same task but with different data for a new set of slides to present to key stakeholders.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • This internship has improved my office skills such as word and excel which can be very useful during university. Good insight into how risk is managed within a bank to maximise profits while still abiding by the regulators regulations. Given knowledge about banking divisions which I may wish to pursue in my graduate scheme

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere is ok. It is quite quiet as it is the summer holidays and most people are on leave. There are some floors that have ping pong tables and open workspaces for you to work in. You can use these spaces as long as you complete all the work required of you to a good standard and on time

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The overall experience has been ok. At the start there were a few hiccups deciding on what department I will be going into and then waiting a few days for a few items for my internship to arrive but after that everything was quite smooth. Booking holidays and getting paid were easy and on time.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They invest a lot into your development. They allow you to follow your own development journey. They allow you to network with other interns and shadow other departments if you wish. They host a few events which you can help out with such a preparing a presentation for the interns and present to them.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very upfront that the internship can lead to a graduate placement and they have two placement reviews before the referral to the graduate scheme. These offer your line managers opinions on your progress and how you can improve within the timeframe of your internships. There is a wide range of graduate opportunities available at Lloyds.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Being part of a large inter cohort gives a wide range of people to meet from different areas. Taking part in a charity challenge brings you closer to 6-7 other people over the 10 weeks as you try to raise the most money and awareness for a given charity chosen by Lloyds.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Being in London it is expected to cost a lot to go out or live in. Rent was covered by Lloyd's so that is a good bonus that you don't have to pay for which you definitely need. The upside is that there is a lot of variety to choose what to do and where to go.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • London nightlife is one of the best. There is always something to do. By no means is this experience going to be cheap as it is London. All interns are located close to or in the same accommodation so someone will want to go out on a given date whenever you feel like.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • They encourage personal development so if you find that you like an area you have the opportunity to visit and shadow that team. This freedom to go to see positions that could later be linked to your graduate scheme is invaluable. Treasure hunts and other activities are also hosted for the more adventurous.
