The Role
I enjoyed the fact I was given such a large responsibility and that the stuff I was doing was actually being used by the company however I did find the work sometimes a bit tedious and potentially not as exciting as I would want. Overall though, I understand that you have to have worked in a role for a long time before you get to really dive deep into the more interesting and challenging areas.
I definitely felt valued within my team as often I would get people questioning me on things which they needed me to do. Also, during my time on the internship the majority of my team were on holiday so it was vital that I was able to take over their daily tasks.
Here I have mixed emotions. I feel like I did not get enough support from my seniors in the sense that they didn't regularly keep up to date on what I was doing and what my targets were. However, when we did sit down they were very thorough and encouraging.
Although workload, as in any job, varies day to day I feel like I was busy most days. Excluding the first week I spent my days fairly busy with work and the team gave me plenty of mini projects so even when I finished my daily duties there was always something more for me to challenge myself with.
Again, similar to the previous question I do believe I was given a reasonable amount of responsibility in my internship considering I was only an intern for 10 weeks with no prior knowledge of banking or finance. They really have pushed me to take on as much responsibility as possible and it's something I am very grateful for.
In regards to how it helps me with my degree study, I feel like this internship has had little to no effect on how well I will do. However, when it comes to the future and getting a job I definitely think the internship has helped me. I have learnt vital working skills and developed a detailed understandi9ng of finance in such a short time.
The Company
The atmosphere in my office was fairly nice and very calm. If anything I would say it was almost too calm. I would have preferred a more thriving/buzzing environment to work in but I understand that that is a hard thing to have when the entire team needs to be focussed on their work.
The internship was very well set up. If I am only commenting on the internship itself I would say the organisation was impeccable however one slight problem I had was with the pre-work checks which were an absolute nightmare! However, whilst working I had plenty of support and from the word go I was straight in with the office and they knew exactly what I was to be doing.
I was able to take a few courses and go to many events for me to learn new things which I think was extremely beneficial. Coming from a non-financial background I feel the 'lunch and learn' sessions were crucial to my progression in understanding the company and my role. Furthermore, I have certified achievements, such as the BMC, which I will be able to put on my CV for future job applications.

Currently, I don't think the division I was based in is the area I would want to work in within the company in the future but I feel I could definitely see myself in the company later on. There are plenty of opportunities and particularly if you have completed an internship!
The Culture
The social scene was brilliant! I lived in student halls with 98 other interns on the LBG programme and it was great because we all had similar working hours and lifestyles so we bonded well and would go out on weekends together sightseeing and clubbing. It was basically like starting first year uni all over again.
Being in London things were very steep when it comes to eating or drinking out however there are still supermarkets which are the same price as they would be anywhere so it's not all bad. As long as you aren't frivolous, the cost of living actually wasn't bad at all. Also the pay reflected the greater cost of living which was a bonus!
Nightlife was great, but I think that was inevitable with living in the capital... There was plenty of variety and we haven't been to the same place twice! Very social and very exciting to be able to explore and have fun across town. Also, if you looked hard you could find some places with fairly decent deals to make nights out a bit cheaper (well for London anyway).
I feel like this was something that I did not do on my internship. Maybe it was because I did not look into it enough or maybe it was because I was not given any opportunity. Everyone I have spoken to who also has an internship was just busy every week day and didn't want to do anything until Friday night and then even on weekends people were too tired to try.
