The Role
My internship has been really insightful and interesting, as my team has allowed me to work alongside multiple projects and different areas of the business, giving me plenty of work to give keep me busy for the majority of the time, while trying not to overwhelm me in tasks. Therefore it has been enjoyable as I've had a wide range of jobs and experiences instead of doing the same repetitive task every day.
Straight away I was welcomed into the team and given the opportunity over the first week to have one to one talks with the majority of the team. This allowed me to get to know everyone and what roles they did. Therefore by doing this everyone knew me and treated me like any other co-worker, getting invited to lunches and social events outside of work.
Through out the internship, I could always go to my managers with any issues or questions and they would always be very helpful. At the start there was more guidance and support given to me, but as I got use to work, they gave me more freedom which was great as it gave me the opportunity to seek out work and get involved with the projects that interested me.
At the start of the internship I wasn't too busy as I was still getting use to being at work, so they tried to not overwhelm me in work but let me get along at a reasonable pace. There were times which I could of done with a little more work but quite often when this happened, I spoke to my manager and they would find something for me to do. During the end of the internship the workload increased so I could always be getting on with something, and knew what needed to be done. However it has never got to the point where I thought I couldn't manage, and there is always activities like Table tennis to give you a small break during the day which is fantastic.
As expected, as the internship went on the more responsibility I was given, as I learned more about the business and proved myself. To start with I was given a lot of smaller tasks with less responsibility, but at the end I'm working on bigger projects by myself and deciding what I need to do next. Able to work for the majority of the day without seeking assistance in what I should be doing
As I've never had a Job before and only done a little bit of work experience in a small company. This opportunity has allowed me to develop multiple skills ranging from teamwork to technical finance skills. It has allowed to gain a further insight into what working in a bigger company would be like, and will definitely be helpful in certain areas of my degree like an accountancy module I'll be doing next year.
The Company
The atmosphere in my office was a lot more friendly than first expected. When I found out I was going to be working in London I thought it would be very serious, however my office has been quite relaxed with no real dress code allowing you to feel comfortable. People are constantly talking to each other while working, and If you need to get along with a lot of work you can put in some headphones and listen to some music. There is also table tennis and pool tables you can use through out the day if you need a break. So overall everyone is very friendly and there is a fantastic working environment.
The internship has been set up very well, In the first week I received a work Laptop and Locker to use, there was an induction event at the end of the first week where I got to meet other finance interns, this would of been better if it was on the first day but was still nice to have.
Lloyds has given me access to loads of online training for me to choose from, If it interests me. There has been a lot of training talks and events which have been offered to me and multiple opportunities to learn about of areas of the business, by doing spend a day events where you would be spend a day learning about a completely different side of the business.
Company Parties/Events
I've spent quite a lot of time talking to Graduates and learning about the Grad scheme Lloyds offers which is very appealing and definitely something I will consider after getting my Degree. I will also be considering doing another 10 week internship next year with Lloyds in a different area of the business
The Culture
There has been as I've been living in the same accommodation as most of the interns, also there has been lots of occasions to meet other interns through out the internship, one helpful way has been a charity challenge all interns take part in which groups you up with 9 other interns allowing you to easily make friends.
Lloyds paid for my accommodation in London, so that was very helpful, however London is still very expensive when eating out and going on a night out with friends but still easily manageable from the pay they give you.
There is a massive Nightlife in London with loads of clubs and events you can go to every night, so finding somewhere good to go is never a problem.
During the first few weeks of my internship my team set up a charity pub crawl which was a great opportunity to be a part of allowing me to get to know loads of people while having a fantastic night out. There has been opportunities to go out for lunches and a few drinks after work.
