The Role
I enjoyed my internship and think that I gained valuable experience for the rest of my career. I really liked the fact that LBG is such a huge organisation, with very different activities and services. Learning about all the functions (finance, legal, transformation ...) used to serve the clients was very interesting.
All the colleagues were really welcoming and helpful. I was not afraid to ask questions, which was important in order to understand their work. I only wish I could have helped them more, in completing their tasks, and making their work easier.
As I said previously, all my supervisors/managers were always there to answer my questions and queries. At first, I just think that I could have received more clear guidance about what was awaited of me, but it gradually improved during the course of the internship.
This varied depending on the weeks. At the beginning of the internship, I was not very busy. During other weeks, I also think that I could have worked more. My workload gradually increased during the internship. I felt most busy when I had to complete multiple projects at the same time. I found this quite fulfilling, and wish this could have happened more often.
For the projects I completed, I contacted the relevant stakeholders which were sometimes high in the hierarchy. But in general, I was not given a lot of responsibilities. However, I understand why that would be the case. As a 19 year old intern, new to the company and department, I would not expect to be given great responsibility when I just arrived in the team.
Working a lot in Excel during my internship will be quite useful for my career. The other skills I developed the most are communicative (e.g. reduce my stress when talking to senior stakeholders, present the information in a factual way ...) . Meeting new individuals, and visiting different offices was also good in boosting my flexibility: I am now more confident that I can adapt to various environments, and perform well outside my comfort one.
The Company
The overall atmosphere in the office was quite positive, everyone being really welcoming and nice to me.
My internship could have been organised better. At the beginning, it was not clear what I would be doing during my time there.
In terms of personal development and training, I was lucky to be able to talk & meet individuals from various departments and with totally different tasks. This gave me a good overview of the different roles and positions within a bank.
Flexi Time
National Travel
The graduate schemes are quite appealing to me. I feel that the Helping Britain Prosper attitude can help me contribute to society, and have a positive impact through my work. The diversity of positions, and number of opportunities is also an aspect which makes me want to work for LBG.
The Culture
I expected more social events (drinks, diner ...) to be organised between colleagues. However, I understand that the agile working element restricts this.
The cost of living was not considerable.
The nightlife was good in the area I worked in.
I could get involved in the charity challenge (which was partly outside work) but also by doing sports (...).
