The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement. It gave me great insight to working in a bank and provided great networking and learning opportunities.
I felt very valued. I was regularly given tasks and asked for my opinions on situations and ways to approach projects
I was given lots of support and guidance but was also encouraged to be independent and go out a find my own work and things that would be valuable for my learning.
I was kept busy but also not put under lots of stress by this. In this internship you make yourself as busy as you want to be by volunteering to help and get involved in things you are interested in.
I was given a good amount of responsibility by having my own projects to carry out and some of the work I done was actually implemented across the whole building. Also, many suggestions I had were implemented by management so I felt I was given a lot of responsibility for a 10 week p;placement
I think the skills and training I have received will really help me in my future career as I now understand more about the bank and how businesses can operate.
The Company
Enthusiastic atmosphere where there are lots of jokes and laughter. However, can tell that it is a still a place of work. Also Gogarburn has many facilities in it such as a nursery, gym, spa and mindfulness areas that make it a very relaxed place of work. Aswell as running track, football pitches, table tennis and foosball areas to chill.
I think for my placement it was organised well but I did have to go out and find a lot of work for myself as my projects were not going to last my whole 10 weeks. Also, there was a lack of communication to my manager about certain things by early careers about some things. Overall though I think it was pretty well organised.
They were excellent at this. We were offered training every 2nd Friday regarding different things in the bank. We also had a 2 day induction where I learned a lot about business. This internship was also the best paid I heard about so it is clear RBSnt to invest in their staff.

Very appealing. I am hoping to secure a place in the graduate scheme and start my career here after university. I think this would be a fantastic place to work as the graduate scheme offers 3 8 month placements in the bank to help you get idea of which area you would like to work in. This is suitable for me as I still do not know what career path I want to take.
The Culture
Yes, we had 4 different social events organised by the bank. The induction, the CSR challenge opening event and the closing event, as well as the closing internship event. The interns I worked with were also very enthusiastic about meeting up and socialising in our own time and this provided a great opportunity to make friends.
I stayed at home but other interns found it relatively similar to other parts of Scotland. The commute was expensive on the train but Gogarburn provide free bus services to employees which helped. Food and drink was similar to my home town so I found budgeting very easy and the internship paid well to help with the expensive travelling
It seemed ok and there were loads of student places and deals available. Also, the Edinburgh fringe was on at the time of the internship which was a great opportunity to socialise and see the city more. I think this was a great chance for the Foreign interns to see the wonderful nightlife that Scotland has to offer.
Yes I got involved in beekeeping through my placement which I really enjoyed and was something I would never have got the opportunity to do. Also, I have gotten involved in some mindfulness projects and learned a lot more about this through research and presentations. Interns also take part in a corporate social responsibility challenge which was a great chance to do activities outwiththe workplace with my fellow interns.
