The Role
ASI have created an amazing internship, the people are fantastic, the work is amazing and the responsibility given by your team is second to none as an intern. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as an intern, and would highly recommend the internship. I will be sad to leave at the end of 10 weeks!
My team were wonderful at making me feel welcome and comfortable, I have been incredibly lucky to be with such an amazing team and been given some fabulous opportunities. From simple things like getting coffee and lunch with the team regularly, to having my opinions and ideas listened too at meetings and always being encouraged to participate from an early stage.
Wonderful support whenever I needed help, advice guidance. Supervisors (and the whole team) were always there to help, set up a meeting to put me in contact with someone who could help. It was hugely appreciated and it really helped me develop over my ten weeks at Aberdeen standard investments.
Perfect - just the right amount of project work, shadowing, exploring the business, and time with clients and companies. There was always meetings I could prepare for, and attend and alongside my projects there was always extra papers and insights that I could spend my time doing. An excellent balance!
Excellent - really good opportunities, and the right level of responsibility as an intern. My responsibility grew as I developed my skills and knowledge in the industry. The team were really supportive in helping me grow so that as time when on I could take a more active role in meetings and presenting my project work.
Incredible transferable skills learns, and had a wonderful team to help me grow and develop. My financial skills grew exponentially and the company helped us with advanced excel training and workshops. This will really help me as I move into a career in this industry, and it was hugely appreciated.
The Company
The atmosphere was fantastic. It was a perfect balance between being able to get your work done effectively, but welcoming enough to be able to chat through ideas with the people around you (or just a chat in general). The team were great at creating a really comfortable and friendly atmosphere.
The overall internship was really well set up and organised and there was ample meetings set up for us to learn more about the business outside our designated team. My actually team were fantastic in setting up one-on-one meetings with various asset classes and other teams in order to get a more holistic view of the overall business.
Fantastic - there was a number of courses and meetings in which we were able to develop and learn more - including advance excel workshops. My team, and the company in general, were really supportive in helping me grow and develop, and were always happy to organise meetings to help me with my projects.
Excellent - HR was really helpful and responsive to questions about the graduate programme. The process was really slick and I hugely appreciated that HR were really responsive and would happily have meeting with us to talk through our prospects and the process. The CIO organised a lunch for the investment interns which was a great insight and a really good opportunity to learn more.
The Culture
yes, there was a really good social scene with the interns. It was helped by the fact that many of the interns lived in the same accommodation provided by the company. I did however, have great interns around me in the same business area, and have made great contacts with them.
Cost of living in Edinburgh is relatively cheap, particularly in comparison to London, but also because it is generally a 10-15 minute walk to work - therefore cutting down on transport costs. The city is generally quite small and compact - yet lots to do - so you don't spend a lot of money on transport.
Edinburgh is a fantastic place to live during the summer, and it was wonderful to be here whilst the Fringe International Festival was on. It gave the city an incredible buzz, and the team was really great in organising nights out to shows. Fantastic culture in the city, would highly recommend.
Yes, there were opportunities both organised by Aberdeen Standard, but also the interns were really social in setting up lunches and nights out. It was more beneficial to be staying the accommodation provided by the internship, and the interns were really social who lived together - living in Edinburgh I was not staying there, I did however have ample opportunity to join in with the interns that lived together.
