The Role
I was able to get involved in a few different projects to keep busy. I was able to learn new skills in software such as PowerBI, OBIEE, Smart Draw
My colleagues were understanding that I was learning but also challenged me just the right amount. The team I worked in was very friendly and always willing to help if I had any issues
Whenever I had issues, I could just message my manager or the technical lead and they would point me in the right direction.
There were some days where I was extremely busy with my PowerBI Project, but there were also days which were less busy which meant that the work load evened itself out
I was given a fair bit of responsibility on the project I worked on, I did have an experienced IT Analyst working with me on the project, who was able to help if I did have any issues
During this internship, I have worked in an Agile environment which is pretty useful for the future as I am a computer science student. I also learned batch programming, which I could also see myself using in the future.
The Company
The atmosphere does tend to be quiet, but people are always very friendly and open, It's not like everyone stays to themselves.
The placement was very well organised, from the events to the work. I don't have anything negative to say about the organisation.
I feel like the company really did invest a lot in the interns, with weekly development sessions for things like Microsoft Excel and Presentation skills. I feel like some of the sessions were a waste as they were things that I already knew. but they definitely worked on our development.
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
I feel that ASI would be a great place to develop my skills and learn from the people around me. I have really enjoyed the placement.
The Culture
The Social scene was OK. I felt as though the Technology interns were slightly separated from the other interns as we were in different offices.
Edinburgh is not the cheapest of places, but it's also not too expensive either
There are a lot of pubs and a few clubs dotted about, they are usually very busy though.
I was given the opportunity to take part in a volunteer day as part of the apprentices' Scottish Apprenticeship Challenge, where we helped renovate the gardens of a care home. There was also a work BBQ.
