The Role
Based in Cardiff, the workload was not as intense as I expected, mostly working 9-5. Lloyds have an agile working policy that gives great flexibility to be able to work whenever you want as long as the required hours/work is made up/done. I believe however that in London, the work would be more demanding. The content of the projects I worked on was enjoyable, covering aspects from preparing data for rating agency reports to researching market news for investor presentations (so both detailed and general). This was really enjoyable.
My team was welcoming, and very enthusiastic, everyone having their own personality and life outside of the workplace. I heard similar things from other interns so believe the culture at Lloyds is a good fit for most people. They always looked out for me and 3 times a week we had a "huddle" to check up on how all team members were doing generally.
Work intensity fluctuated greatly from day to day and week to week depending on deadlines. There is also a charity challenge (Helping Britain Prosper) and general finance project to complete which you can put as much time into as you want, so how busy you are depends on yourself to some extent, and how much you want to put into the extra aspects of the internship.
I was given real responsibility with updating actual data that would be sent off to rating agencies and checked by auditors like KPMG. After my work was checked, it was genuinely sent and used by other institutions which was a big surprise for me as I could be held accountable for my own work which had a real impact on the business. However, this was not the case with all my work.
