The Role
I felt that although my colleagues / other interns were welcoming and really easy to get along with - the actual work I was involved in was less so. I had initially been mismatched when applying for my internship, which meant that I had to reapply. This meant that there was only once placement left within the area that I had applied for. The role that I was eventually given didn't really align with my interest nor skills. On top of that I was informed 7 weeks into my internship that my area wouldn't be offering a graduate scheme for the following year due to "restructures". This wouldn't have been so bad if we were informed earlier into our internship, so that we could explore other areas of the bank. They shouldn't have advertised for internship in this area if they weren't going to offer them. This reflected how unorganised the whole placement was.
There were some colleagues who made an effort to recognise my contribution to projects etc. However, I felt that I had very little impact on projects overall. This is mainly due to the fact that a lot of work that my colleagues were doing had little room for me to be able to get involved. This also meant that there were times that I was very busy and other times where I barely had any work to do at all.
Very little - my manager was away for over 3 weeks of my internship and then worked part time. When they were in the office they were so busy that I felt that if I did bring anything up then it would be wasting her time.
Overall, I felt that I did very little over the internship. There was a week or two where I was very busy due to doing work for another team, but other than that I felt that there was no real plan for my internship.
None really
I completed all the training that was required, which did give a great insight into risk and money laundering within the banking sector. However, there were next to no opportunities to develop any other skills, such as , technical etc.
The Company
It was fine - my colleagues were easy to talk too, but no particularly chatty.
Was mismatched and then informed late into my internship that my area wouldn't be offering a graduate scheme. Overall, it was very poorly organised from recruitment to the actual placement.
Had an induction, but other than that nothing
Flexi Time
Working from home
Not very - I am grateful for the support that I received on the scholars scheme and some of the areas that I did get a look into did seem very interesting and areas that I would consider working within in the future. However, due to a combination of the disorganisation and lack of support during my internship it has put me off considering employment with Lloyds in the future.
The Culture
yes - the other interns were very easy to get along with and we did go out most weekend / do stuff during the week
It was especially affordable due to not having to pay for accommodation during the internship and most things were similar in terms of living cost to Bristol
We did go out most weekends, however, there weren't a variety of clubs, so going to the same clubs got boring after a while.
