The Role
I have really enjoyed the placement and I have a much better insight into the job and the environment that I will be working in. However I feel that I could have been given more work to do as at times there wasn't a lot to do.
I felt that I was treated as an equal by the team and most people took the time to help me and explain things to me.
Unfortunately I haven't been in much contact with my line manager but most people around the office have been very supportive and taught me new things when I didn't have any work.
I haven't been very busy on the placement but I have found work to do every day and when asking around the office people always took the time to explain work to me so that I could do it.
I was given some responsibility as I took part in smalls parts of projects, but I was always supervised when given something important.
I would say that my degree isn't very relevant to the actual job and is something you need to learn on the job. I felt the skills I learned were very important for the work place and I now have a much better insight into the job and the environment I will be working in which is very important.
The Company
Some teams were very enthusiastic which motivated me to work hard and there was always interesting things to do. Other teams less so much. The general atmosphere was a very friendly office.
I don't feel that there was a schedule set or there was any preparation for my internship and I was mainly left to my own devices. However I feel that I have learned a lot about Atkins and the type of work carried out by helping out around the office in different areas.
I feel that Atkins has prepared me very well for entering the work place and knowing exactly what to expect. However in terms of training and developing for my actual job I didn't feel there was much investment.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
I would really like to work for Atkins in the future and a couple of the teams I would really like to work in.
The Culture
There was another placement student in the office, we weren't introduced but we quickly made friends and it was nice to have another student there.
I commuted to work on the train which was fairly expensive but cheaper than living in the city.
Unfortunately I didn't stay over night so didn't experience the night life.
Not that I know of.
