The Role
Absolutely enjoyed it. It was a fantastic experience and people were very nice and always willing to help. I knew I wanted to do Markets before the internship, but after this summer I am also convinced Citi is the right place for me.
I took part in projects that had a direct contribution to my team, they were all part of a bigger, broader purpose that my team had for the long-term. This made me feel valued and included in the team in a matter of a few days, which was very encouraging. I also appreciated them seeking feedback from me regularly on how they can make things work better for interns.
I was always introduced to new people by my manager and helped to tackle my first days on the desk. Moreover, when I found it difficult to deal with a certain task or a particularly busy day, I found my team's support very encouraging and their understanding helped me make the most of my experience at Citi.
I am very busy every day, but that is a result of my freedom over my schedule. I have a great balance between desk work, other activities organised by Citi and my own projects, like meeting new people and doing extra work on my desk. I believe the internship was structured well enough to give us enough work to be occupied with, but also freedom to pursue our own projects.
Quite a lot of responsibility, especially in one of my rotations where my project is something no one in the industry has ever done before. Therefore, I am responsible for helping my team with the necessary raw data, and since no guidelines are available from other similar projects, I have the freedom to choose what is relevant and 'pitch' my ideas to my colleagues. This felt very rewarding.
I learnt many things, from using Excel or Bloomberg more efficiently to the type of role that would suit me in the long-term. Without doubt, these are very important takeaways from the internship, and I would say in all honesty that this internship has taught me more than one year of university can ever teach me.
The Company
The trading floor is, in my view, the most fun place to work. The fast pace doesn't suit everyone, but it did fit my personality, so I felt at home. It also encourages you to get up and speak with others, it feels very open.
Quite well organised, sometimes it was hard to manage trading game preparation, desk work and others at the same time, but it was a good challenge to deal with. HR were there for us all the time, and I felt the communication between us was very efficient.
I felt like a full-time employee, and although I only spend a month with each team, I didn't feel so. Citi invested in us, from training to the time senior people spent with us.

Would love a job with them, and probably my final decision is thanks to the people I met.
The Culture
My intern class was quite nice and easy to talk to. We organised nights out every week and always had fun together. I felt I made friends I would like to see again in the near future.
London is quite expensive, but the salary was enough for us to have everything we needed. Canary Wharf specifically is more expensive than other areas in terms of socialising costs, but very affordable for our salaries.
Canary Wharf is quite lively every day after work, an aspect that I enjoyed. It's not necessarily a place where you would spend a lot of time on a Friday night, other areas that are close are better, but it's worth a drink after work.
We had the Citi Global Community Day in July that involved helping a local cemetery with cleaning. We found out about its history, met people from other divisions and had lots of fun. Definitely enjoyed helping the community, I am happy Citi takes part in such initiatives.
