The Role
Interesting work coupled with a very welcoming environment and a drive to try and develop you as an individual.
Colleagues were always on hand to assist whenever needed. Treated as amember of the team from day one and given responsibility to deliver on high impact projects.
High level of guidance with biweekly 1:1 meetings and an open door policy that meant that you could approach whenever you needed. Focus on personal development and ensuring a correct work life balance.
Generally very busy with multiple projects meaning that there was variation throughout the day. There were quiter days but flexible working allowed you to take time back during these times meaning that you had a good balance.
High level of responsibility to deliver on high impact projects. Goven the opportunity to lead team projects and chair cross functional meetings.
High value experience in terms on softer skills. The placement helped to develop my communication, time management, problem solving, and people management skills that are all transferable skills to be taken forward to any job.
The Company
Generally a very friendly office. Open plan and hot desking meant that you were able to talk to and get to know new people but there were also quieter places for when you needed to knuckle down with work.
Slow to start in terms of the training and did take a couple of months to get into the swing of things; however, my role was very varied and I had fantastic opportunities.
The company invested as much as you wnated to get of the placement. There were opportunities for yellow belt training and to become STEM ambassadors but there were also small classroom based learning sessions to broaden your skillset.

Working from home
Very appealing with the chance to progress and to potentially travel to other sites. Very good ethos and a commitment to your personal development.
The Culture
Most interns ate lunch together, lived together, and met up in the evening/weekends to socialise. Colleagues in departments were active in setting up social opportunities for the placement students.
Reasonably cheap with rent including bills below £400. Eating out is cheaper than most places and there were plenty of shops to choose from to buy groceries.
Closest city was Canterbury and nighlife was limited in the local area; however, good selection of pubs and bars to choose from.
Plenty of local clubs for all kinds of sport. I personally played badminton with two different clubs in the area but there were opportunities for rugby, football, cricket, hockey, etc. in the area.
