The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my 10 week internship. I had great exposure to different areas of the bank and also had lots of networking and learning opportunities. I think that the internship was a excellent opportunity to gain exposure to banking and also to improve knowledge on financial and money markets.
I worked with a variety of different colleagues throughout my time on the internship. I believe that the work I was given to complete was of great value to the team and therefore, I felt very appreciated and valued by my colleagues. Many members of staff also made time to sit down with me and explain their roles to me.
Line managers were very approachable and gave honest feedback. We had a mid internship and end of internship review, which provided us interns with opportunities to identify areas of weakness and think about how to improve them. I believe that feedback is very important for progression and I found this guidance from my managers very helpful
Some days were busier than others. I would have not much to do on some days but others I would be given lots of tasks and be very busy. The amount of work I had depended on the amount of work the team had, which in summer isn't as much as other times of the year.
I was given lots of responsibility by being able to complete tasks which had a great value to the team. The work I completed was work which was important to the team and therefore I could see that I was given a large responsibility by being asked to complete it.
I think that the personal growth I experienced throughout my 10 weeks exceeded my expectations. I improved my confidence, my teamwork skills and my presentation skills. These are skills which I will practice throughout the rest of my studies and also my career. I think that the training and the learning opportunities were really helpful
The Company
Depending on team. Some teams were more chatty than others, but the atmosphere was overall fun and sociable. I did not experience any negative atmosphere in either of the departments I worked in, everybody wanted to work together and help each other when possible. This was something I really liked.
There were many events and opportunities arranged for us throughout the internship. The programme was put together and structured very well and allowed us interns to gain as much knowledge as possible. I think that the opportunities throughout the internship allowed us to learn and to improve skills such as networking, presentation and teamwork
There is a week training on Money markets and Financial markets which is very helpful and beneficial. There are also lots of networking opportunities.
Subsidised Canteen
I would be very happy to be offered a position at MUFG. I am hoping to be able to work there when I graduate, as there are lots of opportunities to learn and to gain exposure to different areas of banking. I believe that it is a great bank to start your career at.
The Culture
There were intern socials arranged for us which helped us to get to know each other more and to socialise with each other. The other interns were sociable and so there were also social opportunities for us outside of work. I think we all got along very well and enjoyed to socialise inside and outside of work.
MUFG is in the city of London and so the cost of living and socialising is very high. However, there are some pubs nearby which are not too expensive and there is also student accommodation which is available to rent over the summer which isn't overally expensive either. London is an expensive area in general though.
Nightlife was good, there were nice bars within walking distance of the office and then also some a short taxi or train away. However, they are expensive.
There are sports teams at MUFG such as netball which you can get involved with. We also completed a CSR event which allowed us to give back to the community for an afternoon which was very fun and rewarding.
