The Role
My internship at HSBC helped me to learn more about the day to day work within Commercial Banking. I gained a much wider understanding of the different roles available and develop the skills required.
My team was great in giving me work and explaining the wider impact of my contribution. They also helped with my wider learning with regards to the business and my soft skills. I think the team enjoyed having an extra resource to help them get through their work.
My team helped to connect me with various people to network and to work shadow around the business. They also supported me in my personal development.
As the team trusted I was able to get the work done - the work load increased and kept me busy.
I felt involved in a few major pieces of work, that was actually submitted and used. We were given a group project at the start of the internship to work alongside other interns - this was a project that was implemented and used by the business now.
The internship helped me see the skills required to be successful post-university. I am now able to focus on these skills in my final year of studies.
The Company
The atmosphere was great where people got the work done but also had fun whilst doing so. The team and other interns were also keen to hang out after work.
A well thought out internship where the Emerging Talent team cared about ensuring a good experience of the interns.
Firm invested a lot in training days and welcome days - and also in HSBC University which provides a lot of learning.
Globally mobile firm where the career paths are as good as you can make them. Many opportunities out there.
The Culture
Very social - placed in Birmingham where there was many things to do.
Relatively cheap and well-priced for things to do in the area.
Great nightlife - stayed in a city and interns keen to go out,
Yes, many things to do. People are always interested in hanging out after work.
