The Role
I really enjoyed my placement. There were a lot of other interns and so many graduates in the larger offices which made the working environment quite young. The teams have a lot of fun both in and outside of the workplace (where they have many work dues). Some of the jobs were also very fun, though of course not all of them Some can be a little tedious but that is the same in every workplace . There was a perfect balance
Lloyds certainly aim to develop their interns and will not just have you doing boring jobs like making tea and filing. They really allow you to get stuck in to the day to day work of a Lloyds employee. I was given a lot of responsibility and freedom which allowed me to have a very large impact. If you do not find the work that you have been doing reflects what the full time employees would do on a day to day basis then speak to your line manager or human resources contact. They are so flexible and want you to get the most out of the placement, but also they want to get the most out of you as an intern,
My line manager was amazing! She is very flexible and genuinely cared about my development. She was happy to let me work from other offices, with other departments and on different projects depending on what I asked for. As long as I could justify the benefit that this would have on both me and the bank, then she would do all that she can to accommodate.
This varied dramatically. In short, for the first week my workload was boringly low. After this, my work load quickly became optimal! I was given the perfect amount of work for the majority of my placement which enabled me to have a large impact, without being bored, or overworked. Lloyds have been extremely flexible and I could ask multiple people within the team for more work at any time if I wanted it.
I was given an incredible amount of responsibility. Much more than I could have expected. There were still certain areas in which I would have hoped to have been given some more. For example, I was not able to go on any client visits. The clients looked after by my team generate hundreds of millions of pounds turnover a year so not all of the employees are eager to take interns on these. I know however of many people working with smaller sized business (below £100m turnover) that had many visits weekly.4
From the training that I was provided with by Lloyds, I am now able to role onto their graduate programme assuming that my referral is successful. I also developed a number of transferable skills, particularly regarding networking and communication. They give their employees access to a huge amount of both internal and external online training material that all interns can access at will during their placement
The Company
The offices were often bubbly. There is a lot of joking around. ALOT. It is a really fun environment to work in, and it is easy for interns to join in with the teams conversations. Sometimes the office atmosphere can be a little more serious, with everybody focusing hard on their work. Note, it isn't unusual for every office to have one person that 1 person that is very blunt, serious, and complains a lot
There are a number of thing that could have been done better. For example, it would have been better to have system access to all of the computer programmes necessary for my role, rather than having to spend so long applying for these myself, then waiting for access. Also, I feel that it should have been organised better for me to go onto a client visit
A lot. I frequently travelled from the midlands to London in order to attend training events and my team would always encourage for me to go to these and would pay for my fees. They also invest heavily in there online resources available for all interns. Colleagues are also always happy to offer 1to1 support or to grab sometime with you to answer any questions that you have, or to give advice

Great! I am pretty confident that I am going to be referred onto the graduate programme. They work very closely with interns throughout the whole internship process to give them strong chances of a graduate referral. The graduate programme is also amazing! It gives you all of the benefits of a regular employee. It is a 2 year placement with 4 rotations, pays well (plus bonus), is flexible and is a very established part of the business
The Culture
Yes there was, though my placement was based in a small city that had no other interns. Nether the less, I would frequently travel to bigger cities. I know for example that London interns had a number of boat parties organised by interns for interns. I know that in other cities interns would frequently go to restaurants together also. A Facebook page for interns is made every year.
Pretty average
Really good but there were not many interns based in my city
Yes. There were multiple networking events and some casual events to with the employees in my team. This for example included playing cricket with by Lloyds team and another business which is closely connect with Lloyds.
