The Role
I enjoyed the experience of working in a corporate environment. I also enjoyed the fact Lloyd's were paying for our accommodation. However, I did not enjoy the work I was doing because it is not an area I am interested in at all and I also found it quite difficult
My team were all really lovely and helpful. However, I often felt that I was given work that required skills I didn't have that others did. And consequently something that took me a week might have been done in a day by one of my colleagues. I felt like I did produce things that were useful to the team though in the end
My line manager encouraged me to ask questions and different team members were willing to help me with the areas that they were most knowledgable about. Sometimes I felt like I was left by myself to certain tasks. But people were always willing to help if I had a problem
I had daily tasks to do and usually had an on-going project to work on the rest of the day. I did sometimes find myself working quite slowly so I didn't run out of things to do. Lloyd's also provide intern development and training that was good if I was running out of stuff to do
A reasonable amount. If I was running reports to be sent to a lot of people they would be checked by a member of the team first
I have learnt some very useful new skills. especially in Microsoft excel which I had barely used before and is used in a lot of work places. I also learnt a coding language, vba which is a great skill to have in addition to the R language we learn at uni
The Company
My office was quite formal and serious. Probably just because the type of work attracts a certain type of person.
I had clear goals during my internship and the work I received from my line manager was well thought out and built up over time. The internship as a whole could have been better organised, I don't think that there was enough information about the areas of work and type of work each 'tribe' contains when applying. I would not have chosen to work in the area I ended up in
There was development and learning specific to scholars and interns. I was also encouraged to complete the companies mandatory training and my team's mandatory training
I would not like to work in the area in which I completed my placement as I really did not like the work. I would possibly be interested in working within a completely different section of the bank. This is because overall I enjoyed the environment and enjoyed shadowing different areas of work

Accommodation costs were covered by Lloyd's which was great, especially because London was a very expensive place to live. My wages did not stretch as far as I had initially thought and I didn't save as much as I had hoped. The cost did put us off going out and doing stuff but we did anyway so therefore spent a lot
The nightlife is great, there is something for everyone in London. The only down side is the cost which meant that we didn't go out that often
