The Role
During my internship at Grant Thornton, I worked with various audit teams and different clients each week. I loved that because the work I did was different each time and very diverse, which gave me the necessary client exposure that I needed. It also helped me one of my goals.
All my audit teams consisted of kind and welcoming people that made me feel like part of the family from day 1. Everyone was keen to answer any questions I had and always prompted me to ask even more questions, should I have any, making the time I spent with them smooth and enjoyable.
My people manager was very approachable and friendly from my first day. We met regularly to discuss my progress and for him to give me feedback on the work I was doing, which I found very useful. All my executives on the clients I worked were always there to help and guide me.
For most of my internship I was on client site and there I was busy on a daily basis; my teams always ensured they gave me work to do and I always asked if they needed help with anything. There were also days in which I wasn’t as busy at the office, but I again made sure to ask if anyone needed help with anything.
I was given a fair amount of responsibility during my internship. The work I was doing was diverse and quite challenging sometimes, but that’s what made it interesting. Seeing that my work contributed to the overall audit was very fulfilling.
Going into my 3rd year at university, I think my internship has helped me become much more confident in myself and more outspoken. The technical skills I learned will also help me for the accounting side of my degree. The people I met and the connections I made, helped me expand my network greatly.
The Company
The atmosphere at the office was very relaxed and enjoyable. I really liked coming into the office every morning; everyone was always friendly and in a great mood and ensured I felt the same way. Overall, the environment was very healthy and everyone was lovely.
My internship was organized very well and went by smoothly. For any trips or events, all the information was communicated to us beforehand and so we knew exactly where we had to be and when. For any admin questions I had, everyone made sure to help me or find someone who could help.
The firm and its people always made sure I was achieving my goals. I didn’t achieve my goals solely on my own; my audit teams as well as my people manager made sure my goals were being met and in some cases even exceeded.

I was very happy to find out that I had received a graduate offer with Grant Thornton! Starting at a firm that welcomed me from my first day and made me feel comfortable is very exciting. I am looking forward to starting at GT next year!
The Culture
My fellow interns and I spent time together outside the office as well either for drinks or food. We all became really good friends, so we always made sure we spent time with one another and got to know each other!
Coming from Leicester, the cost of living and socialising in London seemed expensive to me. However, prior to starting my internship, I did some research and was therefore made aware of the higher prices! Despite this, you can still find quite a few places in London that offer cheaper alternatives.
Around the office there are quite a few pubs and clubs, as well as restaurants that we would occasionally go to for lunch. The office is in a very central location and offers a variety of different places to try out!
Yes, there definitely were many opportunities, such as writing a post for the Spilling The Beans Blog to becoming an ambassador for GT at our universities. We were always made aware that we could engage in these activities. In addition, we had many events outside of work organised for us.
