The Role
The internship with GE has a great structure, juggling, daily reaponsibilities, training and projects, ensuring you get the most out of the year in industry. You’re given a lot of responsibility, having the chance to complete your own projects and implement your own changes to current solutions, alongside your daily responaibilities.
All staff are friendly and fitting into your team is really easy. Managers / Mentors always provide the intern with meaningful and challenging work and also give them a lot of responsibility. Wider teams often provide praise to interns who complete work exceptionally. There are also many oppotunities for interns to implement new projects which is often valued by colleagues.
Manager / Mentor was always able to provide answers to questions, and constantly provided challenging task to complete. They provided brilliant oppotunities to get involved with during the placement and provided good resources to learn about the engine architecture and other topics related to the role. Manager often provides feedback on how the intern is working (Weekly Meeting set up to discuss this) to learn about some of the work the intern is doing and provide any support if necessary.
When not completing daily responsibilities, interns are pushed to find a few projects to complete during their intenship. During the course of the year, the workload is well balanced, a lot of work is given, howeverpver the course of the year this really allows you to develop your time management skills and prioritise tasks.
Interns are given a huge amount of responsibility, given the oppotunity to run weekly calls and expected to complete work to strict deadlines. The interns are given important work that greatly effects the TAT of the engine if not completed properly or on time. Interns are responsible for managing their own tasks, with the aid of their manager if they are given too much work from other colleagues.
invaluable skills gained in communication, teamwork, leadership, time management, project management, presentation skills ect... Internship provides a great balance of projects ranging from individual to large group projects of 10+ people. You also get many oppotunities to give presentations to colleagues, dramtically improving your presentation and communication skills.
The Company
The office had a brilliant mix of being fun and being proffessional. A relaxed and friendly atmosphere which really helpes the interns to fit into the office. All staff are increbily friendly and are good at motovating to complete work on time, whilst maintaining a friendly atmosphere.
A Few issues with HR at the begining and the end of the internship, however, other than this there were almost no problems. GE have a great curriculum to follow during the course of the intenship to make sure there is a good balance of training, learning and working during the internship.
Provided a huge network of online training courses, also allowing interns to get involved in a lot of extra curricula activities. the Wales aite also gives you the oppotunity to get a hands on experience with the engine hardware and an array of experienced technicians that can help learning about the engine hardware.

Eager to persue a career with GE as they provide a lot of oppotunities to develop and provide some great oppotunities within engineering. Provide a lot of oppotunity to progress within the company and take on new career oppotunities and to travel internationally. Also have great graduate oppotunities available that can progress into a career with GE.
The Culture
There is a group of 40+ interns at GE Aviation Wales each year, often many living with one another. There were many oppotunities set up by GE for the interns to socialise and also provided a platform for us to communicate. within a week, the interns organised social events almost every week.
Living in the Cardiff area in a student house with other interna meant that rent was cheap compared to university accomodation. local shops and amenities also relatively cheap and is also great living near the ciry center. Many places available that prpvide student discount which accepts students currently on a placement year. Also a lot of places where alcohol is incredibly cheap.
Living next door to cardiff city center there were many different oppotunities for nightlife. It was busy most nights of the week as there are a number of Universities around Cardiff. Trains run fairly late to surrounding areas in cardiff and different stations conveniently located through out the town center.
GE provided a good amount of oppotunities to get involved in which were great to get invloved in and good for personal development. Some were not always advertised as well as others. The EESW Scheme was a great one to get invloved with, working with Welsh schools to develop a aolution to a current problem in industry.
