    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship was overall a very pleasant experience. There have been many opportunities to meet members from across the bank, from interns and graduates to directors, managing directors and even the company's chairman. The headquarters offices in Canary Wharf are a great workplace and there's a nice friendly atmosphere everywhere around the building.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The work I've performed during the internship was mostly aimed towards helping the team efficientise their work. I was the only intern in the team, and the atmosphere was pleasant at all times, I've felt like a permanent part of the team from the beginning and was very well integrated with them.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager there was a very nice person and was very open to helping me achieve my goals, give me a suitable amount of work and made sure most things I've done were good for my personal development and interests. The buddy/mentor scheme is a great thing as well, I got along very well with both of them and they've been very useful throughout my time here.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It was a very decent balance, I've never felt overworked or underworked, there was no pressure at all to deliver something extremely fast, I've basically worked at a consant pace, had meetings or events almost on a daily basis but also a good amount of time for breaks and lunch.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The amount of responsibility was appropriate for a summer intern, I've not been given anything absolutely critical to work on but my work had the potential to cause potential blockers for the team if done wrong, and I've had contact with some nice projects that the team's currently working on.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • There's a varied amount of skills to be gained in such an internship. Trainings were mostly interesting, and on the job I've learned about a decent amount of frameworks widely used in the industry which I didn't have much contact with as part of my degree. Overall a great experience in skills development.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was very relaxed, people are always nice and the company culture is great in general. Most seniors I've had the chance to meet were fantastic people and were happy to talk about their careers and give advice to interns. My team was overall fun and never let me get bored.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Although the initial 2 days of training seemed a bit chaotic at times the persons organising the internship were extremely involved and put a lot of hard work into making sure everything is alright for the interns. I can't possibly have any negative comments in this area, organising was seamless.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There have been training sessions weekly (sometimes even more than one per week) during which seniors would speak to us about their work area, careers and generally have a good amount of time for questions. Most were interesting to listen to and gave great advice. There's also online trainigs which every employee must undergo, they're well made and don't get very boring. Overall the company invests greatly into interns' personal development.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    Travel loan

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • It's a great company to work at, the company culture is amazing and everyone around is nice and happy with the work they're doing. There's also plenty of opportunities to move within the company in different roles or completely different areas, so there's plenty of opportunities for growth and development.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • As I joined I already knew many interns who took part in the spring insight week organised an year earlier. Most interns in my area got along very well, we had many events organised for us and by us, most fellow students were outgoing and we had plenty of fun together.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Prices in Canary Wharf are fine, it's pretty much what you'd expect from London. The area is absolutely filled with bars and there's people going out daily after work, it's generally a good atmosphere in the area. I don't know about housing prices as I lived in a different part of London, but areas close to Canary Wharf are generally cheaper than Central London.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Canary Wharf is very pretty at night, there's a wide range of pubs, restaurants and cafes in the area. The jubilee line connects Canary Wharf to the city and it runs all night Fridays and Saturdays, and without doubts nightlife is not a real issue for anyone who lives in London.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There's many networks you can join within the company and they run many events a year. The company sponsors/organises many events around London such as wheels for change or London Pride. As long as you're interested there will be tons of opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work.
