The Role
It was the best internship ever. They were always concerned about the experience that we wanted to receive. They gave us feedback and kept asking us for feedback on areas that we liked and areas that we wanted to get involved in. All our feedbacks were taken seriously
I had a really friendly team and I know most of the other interns did as well. People were always ready to help, I was always involved in team meetings. I was encouraged to contribute and even when I didn't they still involved me in their discussions just to give me the experience. They always got back and took time out of their schedules to clarify all my questions
My manager is a key to the extensive experience I received out of my internship. She is very encouraging, friendly and approachable. She was a great motivating factor for me to overcome my fears and my weakness and gain the maximum possible out of my internship.
I was never too bored or too busy. I was given the right mix of tasks that involved drawing upon my previous experience and also challenging enough to help me gain new skills.
I was given enough independance to carry out my tasks individually. I was also involved with the team and felt like a part of the actual team of paid staff. Although I did my tasks individually, met up with the team regularly and was not micro managed, I was not the person running the show entirely by myself, since the tasks required working together with multiple people within and across teams
I believe everything that I've gained here is a lesson for life. And CRUK is an employer of choice according to me.
The Company
It was a healthy mix of fun in an organised work environment
It was perfect. There were no loose ends. There were no hiccups during right from day 1.
They never treated me like a handy person. Everyone in the team did their best to help me in any areas I wanted to improve. My manager especially arranged meetings with the appropriate people across teams to help me gain awareness. There was no red tape in my team and I had the opportunity to shadow people from other teams or just talk to them to find how their team worked. I felt like I was in a bottomless well of knowledge and I had the freedom to gain as much as I could
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
They've given us the opportunity to apply for any openings in the organisation. However, after a recent restructure all openings in the team have recently been filled and there are currently no opportunities in the field I want to get into
The Culture
The fellow interns had a network and were all approachable at all times. They were always willing to help each other and the managers were very supportive of the interns working together. We formed a support group amongst ourselves and were working together in a lot of improvement areas helping out each other.
The cost of living and socialising was reasonable. And there were many options
There were plenty of options
Opportunities never ceased to exist within CRUK. In fundraising, networking, working in a charity shop or working along with other teams, they opened up a huge window of opportunities for us. I just hoped that time wouldn't fly so fast.
