The Role
I really enjoyed the work I did. I had the opportunity to take on a Brexit research project on how it affects the bank. My team was also very friendly. The internship programme is really complete and had a lot of development opportunities.
My colleagues treated me very well and were always ready to help me with anything. They also took time to get to know me better.
My manager constantly gave me advice on how to improve my work. He really cared about my development and advised me on the soft skills I could develop that will be useful in the working world.
I spent most of my time doing my personal project which was quite heavy and so I was quite busy. I did occasionally have time to meet people to get insights on other parts of the business.
I was given the responsibility to compile and send out the weekly trading reports. I initially asked for more but my manager told me that a lot of the day-to-day work involves forming judgements but I would need more knowledge of the industry.
I think doing my project really helped me develop research and analytical skills that will be useful when I do my dissertation next year. I learnt how to make sense of information given to me.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was quite relaxed and chilled. It was not fun per se but I did enjoy going to the office everyday.
The internship was very well organised. With each intern assigned a manager and coach. Each of us also got to do our own projects. There were also many development events.
HSBC really emphasised a lot on the development of interns. There were many opportunities given to us for self development. In the induction there were many development talks and we were given learning experiments to develop good behaviours. There were also weekly workshops.
Company Parties/Events
I really like the culture in HSBC.
The Culture
I feel like the social secs could've done a better job. We just ended up organising our own things.
Pretty standard.
Did not go out but I think its quite good.
Yes there were many opportunities.
