The Role
Overall was good. There are a lot of activities to participate in, in addition to the work given e.g. sports & volunteering. I found the activities in my division (wholesale credit) a bit administrative in nature, however, I learnt a lot of relevant things every week. I also enjoyed the weekly learning series for interns quite informative.
I felt valued by my colleagues at work. I was given work that other analysts do on a typical day. I was also asked for help with pieces of work that other employees were working on, and was frequently asked for my opinion concerning deliverables that were being worked on.
There was a lot of support throughout the internship from various people across the bank. Within my division, we had frequent learning sessions, especially at the beginning of the internship to get us up to grasp with what kind of things we would be working on. I was also free to ask people in other teams for assistance and they freely offered their help. BAML has a lot of learning resources what are freely available to all intern, even if you want to learn something that relates to other divisions in the firm.
Depending on the work flow, I had some very busy days, some balanced days, and some where I didn't have so much work. I suppose this isn't out of the ordinary. I would say that there was a good balance at BAML. I was stressed atimes but I feel it made me stronger and expanded my capacity.
I was given work attached with a decent amount of responsibility. You are given real deadlines and your work adds value to the team. However, I felt like I didn't contribute to the big picture seeing as my division has quite a lot of admin tasks, I would have liked to solve real problems.
I would say that I developed relevant skills that would assist me in my further studies. I learnt how to communicate better with others as well as technical skills that were practical in nature. I feel this will complement well with my Msc. Degree which commences shortly after the internship.
The Company
It was quite lively. I felt at ease to walk up to someone even in another team to mine, and have a brief chat with them. Within my team, the mood was generally upbeat and I felt comfortable to talk to other members of my team on both work-related and everyday discussions.
My internship was very well organised ands structured. At the beginning of the internship, we were all made aware of what to expect as the internship progressed. Calendar invites containing upcoming activities were sent to us well in advance and extra information was always communicated effectively. Also, whenever there was a slight adjustment to anything in the calendar, we were always informed in due time which was great.
The company invested quite a lot in interns. There are a lot of trainings which were made available to use (both web-based and one-on-one). We also had a weekly learning series where all interns across all divisions gathered into a hall to learn something new each day. It was quite insightful.

The Culture
Yes there were quite a number of activities to engage in during the internship outside of work, covering a wide range of interests including sports, arts and engaging in societies and volunteering. There is a central hub where we have access to virtually limitless opportunities to get involved outside of work.
