    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship is amazing because it is well-structured. I have the chances of meeting different interns across all the divisions. The company organized lots of different events catering the interests of everyone. I had learned a lot from the banking perspective to make myself more valuable and more prepared for the working life.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone takes you seriously and provides lots of guidance along your learning journey. It is not easy to pick up those materials easily but all people are willing to answer them when I have any questions. Have after-work drink and some informal chats. They will keep you comfortable working in a super friendly environment.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Support are always there for me whenever I need. The company provides good mentor and buddy scheme so intern can talk to them for any issue. Both of them work closely on the daily basis so they can provide immediate feedback on my work. There will be an optional mentorship scheme where I can have a mentor outside my division.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The workload is not heavy because the company would not have very high expectation from intern to produce lots of work. Most of the assigned tasks are mainly helping me to understand the work my team is in charged of. I have been assigned a project to work on for the entire internship and the project was a great one.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • It depends but everyone have the responsibility to do their works and behave well. More responsibilities are being assigned when I have picked up the necessary knowledge but it is manageable and I have a good work and life balance. Another one would depend on your manager's expectation about your work.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • From the first week joining the internship, the company have arranged some training to get everyone adapting into the banking industry culture. The training will be categorised into two types : division based training and general training. The first one will be more deeper and is useful for your work and the later one will be more about the understanding of how the bank operates.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office atmosphere is fabulous if you consider about banking. Everyone is friendly and helpful so I can work very comfortable. I am expected to work independent but can easily get assistance for any issue. I can chat with managing director and directors although I am still an intern to get some advise.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The overall internship is well organised. Lots of events are organised and the best one is a drinking event at national portrait gallery. Crystal maze is another off-company event where I was being challenged my mental and physical ability. Lots of trainings and events are organised to keep me occupied for the entire internship,

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invests in all the interns quite a lot when you compare it with other companies. Lots of training are provided to help us getting into the banking working environment. It is not only restricted to the knowledge about banking but the healthy life concept. No reason to say the company doesn't care about us.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • It depends on divisions but generally good

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I would say it is extremely great and I make lots of friends after joining the internship. I can find a lunch partner easily and it is usual o have lunch with different people every day. Sometime interns will go out together for some events and lots of socialising events are there for everyone.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Living in London is a bit pricey but the amount of wage I earned pay them off. Since I study in London for my undergraduates studies, I am getting used to the price I pay in London for food and accommodation. London is a big city in which everyone will not get bored easily.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Since the company is located at the business district area, there are not much nightlife around the area I worked at. The only thing you can find is some bar for after-work drink. Covent Garden is nearby which is famous for the nightlife but most people will not go there after a long tiring working day.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Of course. I have the chances of joining the touch rugby team and this was my first time playing the sport. Rock climbing and running are the another two major activities employees will go for. There are other activities as well, for instance art and culture, language learning and many more.
