The Role
Really enjoyed it, the hours went by quickly and I got to learn a lot.
Everyone was interested in hearing what each of us has to say, so it was nice to be part of a group that really respects everyone's diversity of thought
They were always available when you need them. But its also important that you learn by doing and at BAML I could find a nice balance between the two.
Sometimes, especially towards the end, there can be less work than at other times. But overall I think it was a good balance.
Ultimately a lot of the tasks I did was updating slides, researching and a bit of technical work too. So I was doing normal analyst work but I wouldn't say I was running the show! We had good exposure to lots of different teams but as a result the work was less in depth than if we would have spent the whole time on one team.
I improved a lot of skills here from time management to analysis. It will definitely help me in my final year in college and give me a new perspective on how to approach tasks. I now realise that in college I have so much free time which I should use more productively.
The Company
Lots of people were easy to talk to and approachable so it made the atmosphere a bit more relaxed than I thought. Some teams did great intern events where they took us out for drinks and it helped me build a better connection with them the next day on the desk
I think it was very well organised, lots of events on and training sessions too. We knew what we'd ne doing and it was a lot of fun. Before the internship even started we were given good advice on places to stay and info on setting up a bank acc etc.
They really do go out of their way to help you. Whether its giving up some of their free time to help you with any problems you have or the training program at Bloomberg and factset offices , you could really get a sense that this company wants to hire the best talent and are ready to commit to giving the best resources.

Would love to get hired on a full time basis. It's unlike any other industry as you get to learn so much. BAML in particular really has a good name and a good culture. Its location is nice in the City and the people here are friendly so I'd take an offer if I get one.
The Culture
Yes a lot of the interns were involved in a whatsapp group so we met up a lot especially during the World Cup. Every Friday night we'd all be together outside and get drinks and then go to a club or somewhere. We'd message each other and get coffees all the time.
To be honest since we were getting paid the high costs of London were bearable. Rent was so much more expensive than what I'm used to and we're only really there to sleep! Cinema and bars are pretty standard prices so nothing too unusual. We were given a free dinner after 7pm so it made things a lot easier.
In the area around us the bars close very early. For example, we'd be out of the office at around 10pm and the bars would be taking last orders at roughly 10:30. So its not great for staying open late but there are areas near by that open for longer.
There were a number of activities such as JP Morgan challenge run, but I guess that's not too frequent. They have a rugby club but it seems to always get cancelled due to lack of numbers. Other clubs like running were there too so I guess there definitely are opportunities to go out.
