The Role
My summer internship at BAML was a very good opportunity to understand the day-to-day job of an investment banker, to learn everyday and meet many people. BAML Summer Internship helped interns get the most of our summer in the bank. - Many events are organized for the interns to meet as many employees as possible and discover each team: all levels of seniority. - Interns are taken care of by different people with a different role: buddy, staffer, mentor, development officer, HR. - Interns at BAML have the opportunity to work with all the teams they want and are not assigned to one specific team.
The people I worked with at BAML are very supportive of the interns assignments. They gave feedback to help me learn and improve as well as to let me know when the work was of good quality. I felt my work was really useful to the teams. As an intern you are still included in the progress of the project and colleagues give us context. I felt people trusted me with the work they gave me.
As an intern you have many different people you can go to ask for guidance and advice to help you with the course of the internship. As regard to the day-to-day tasks, the people I worked with were very clear in their requests and did not hesitate to clarify when necessary. They do not hesitate to teach me how to become a good analyst.
I was busy enough to manage my time correctly - I like to handle quite a lot of work. I was never too stressed to not meet deadlines.
Due to time constraints mainly, interns were not given as much responsibility as an analyst, but still they were expecting me to be very independent in my work. Also, I had to present my work in front of almost all levels of seniority (including MDs) during my internship. One important responsibility I had was to not make any mistake in my work, to ensure I did not waste my colleagues' time.
At BAML I developed two types of skills: - the general skills: I learnt/improved how to provide high-quality work, good analytical skills, proactivity to solve issues, be efficient in the way to work. These skills will be very useful in any future activity. - financial skills: I learnt many technical skills specific to investment banking and even to an industry. These skills will be very useful in any job in Finance
The Company
The atmosphere at BAML is very professional and friendly. People are very committed to their tasks and working hard. They are also very supportive and collaborative, ready to meet you and to share advice. They do not hesitate to participate in events to gather the team. This is a very nice atmosphere to work on.
It was perfectly organized, in terms of weekly activities: trainings, internal events, team events, feedback sessions. We were well informed of what we could do and what was available to us during the internship. The communication was a strong quality of the BAML team organization.
The internship started with a one-week training that was very useful to get the basics, learn about the tools we can use on the job and meet the other inters. During my internship I had weekly trainings and frequent meetings/lunches with senior people from the bank who were sharing advice on how to develop and become a good banker. When I needed to ask for guidance I could ask different people who were there to help me and they were always giving useful advice.

Company Parties/Events
BAML tends to intensely recruit the interns they trained and based on the very good experience I had during the summer internship, I find it very appealing to be working here.
The Culture
In general, yes. Interns had many occasions to meet and socialize. People come from different countries, different backgrounds which made it even more interesting.
BAML was covering for social events. We had a canteen available for cheap prices if we wanted to.
People in banking are working late, but we still had good opportunities to socialize after work on Friday nights mostly, in addition to organized events.
Yes, BAML offers the opportunity to participate in many different activities whether it is volunteering or joining an association/group for a particular activity.
