    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?

    • I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Willis Towers Watson. Having a very relaxed working atmosphere makes the internship an easy stepping stone into a large corporate environment. There are difficulties as you would experience in any company but thee are easily and efficiently resolved by HR.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?

    • The people you work with, especially your line managers greatly appreciated the added value you can bring to the company even during the short period of time you spend there. Individuals within the company are more than willing to devote their time to explain to interns the area of the business they work in and guide you how your future could pan out at the company.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?

    • There were difficulties during the time in regards to the direct line management within the teams. However, HR are very quick to quash any issues that do arise and are particularly helpful in putting your needs first. The support provided by colleagues in general was very high.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?

    • The speed of work does fluctuate day to day dependent upon the team you are in. As i worked in two different teams the standard of work is fairly constant for interns and never gets excessive.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?

    • Not a great deal. All of my work was reviewed by senior members which made it very difficult at some points to move forward in the tasks, or projects that I were given. However, the range of work I was asked to do was varied and definitely helped me to fully understand the industry.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

    • Truthfully, not a great deal. I think as insurance is a highly technical area you need more time to be able to fully grasp and area of business. The internship seemed more about learning and understanding how the business functions than practical work.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?

    • The company atmosphere throughout the entire office is superb, very supportive and you did look forward to going to work everyday. However, there were some difficulties with team members not getting on but again this would be found throughout the majority of different businesses so is not hugely surprising.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?

    • It is a very structured set-up which is good for someone who has no prior professional experience. It is set up so you really understand the industry and get some good insight. This is not necessarily the best structure for everyone.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?

    • There is complete investment from the HR department in you as an individual. I have to say that they are extremely attentive and supportive of you. Having a team available 24/7 to handle your concerns is very helpful.

    • The internships leads nicely on to the graduate scheme. There are multiple opportunities within the company for growth as you go through your career.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?

    • Yes, the social aspect of the placement was there. More events should be conducted by HR early on to assure that everyone is included in the social groups.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?

    • Living in London is expensive as is working in the city. That is expected for the industry.

    • Lots of bars and clubs in the area so this was obviously great.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?

    • Not through the company but within the interns a lot was organised and it was fairly social.
