The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed working at Willis Towers Watson. Well structured internship with a great team around me.
All members of my team were keen to help wherever possible. They would often set aside some time to go through the tasks they had been working to give me a great idea of what brokers do on a day to day basis.
My manager was extremely supportive throughout the internship. Any time I asked if I could get involved with something (i.e. shadow a broker around Lloyds), my manager would immediately speak to relevant people to help me.
My workload varied throughout the internship. I joined just after many big renewals had been completed so within the team it was a quieter period. However this didn't stop me from having my own work to do, alongside the intern group project, i had multiple other projects for different members of my team. Any spare time that I did have I made networking a key prioirty.
With very limited knowledge of the insurance industry before I started, i knew that I would only get limited responsibility throughout the internship. This however, didnt stop me from learning huge amounts about the industry and the company as a whole. Even in my final week, i am still learning new things which is one of the main reasons I loved working here.
I think the networking skills I have developed have been the most useful skill to have. The opportunity to meet a variety of people across the business was crucial to helping me decide the direction that I wanted my career to go in.
The Company
Very good office environment, a variety of different spaces in the office. From quiet study areas, to group meeting pods, it was a very productive office to be a part of. Only disadvantage is that its hot-desking so you may change desks from day to day.
Extremely well set up, from the outset we knew what we was going to be involved in and the structure of our internship. Plenty of opportunities to network.
Willis Towers Watson held weekly speaker series sessions where senior people within the organisation would give up their time to speak to us about the role and career path as well as how to succeed in the industry.
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
As the business is so large, plenty of opportunities to find the perfect role suited to you.
The Culture
As interns we went out a few times in the 8 weeks. Really dependent on the group, but lots of bars/pubs to go to if you want to go out after work.
Expensive area, but based in the city, this is completely expected.
