The Role
I was captivated by my work placement. From the start it was exciting; coming in to the office and networking across the industry. The structure ensured that we were integrated smoothly, and my team was very welcoming. I would recommend the internship to my friends and siblings as I believe it has progressed me in a multitude of ways.
Very highly. I was trusted with work which contributed to the company. I was immediately involved in team meetings, socials, and conversations. My team connected me with underwriters and brokers outside of the team, which displayed a trust in my capabilities. I felt very comfortable in the team I was in and I believe fully that they made me make the most of my opportunity.
My supervisors gave me a lot of support. They took the time to answer my questions, guide me through tasks, and were patient with my beginner skills. My supervisors worked to put me in contact with people who could help with my projects, which was highly beneficial both in this regard and for networking.
I was kept busy, and not by the same tasks on repeat. I was given many different opportunities to work, from creating client packs to having a submission signed, which meant that I was not limited in what I experienced. When I had completed my work, my team were more than happy to give me another task.
I was given a lot of responsibility. I was allowed to present one of my projects to senior colleagues which was a great moment for me. I was entrusted to present without my supervisor with me. Furthermore, I was entrusted to go into Lloyds on my own which was daunting but a very memorable experience.
My presentation skills have undoubtedly progressed over these 8 weeks. The classes with Trudie were invaluable, and my confidence has soared. This will be crucial for my final year presentation, and I believe it will go a long way to my result. Furthermore, my motivation to achieve has greatly increased; I want to work as I have here to take the opportunities I have at my best ability.
The Company
The atmosphere was light-hearted, definitely. Something would always be going on and jokes would be made. I think the seating layout perhaps made it hard to be involved all the time, but the ability to walk around the office, work out booths and benches was really good.
The scheme set up was flawless. I could not have been placed in a better team and I think that lunch with my line manager the day before joining was a nice, nerve-calming integration. The speaker series' were regular and insightful, but not too often that they became lectures. Socials were fun and I think that really helped when making a bond with other interns.
I think the company has given me the chance to learn, the chance to develop, and the chance to show my skillset to a broad range of people. The Dragon's Den was a definitive display of investment by the company as it showed that we are valued employees and are to help shape the future of broking.
Very. I am definitely considering a future with WTW. My values fit well with the company's, and their investment branches out into societies so it is more than just about the role. There seems to me no end to the number of people willing to help you and I like that; I aspire to be that type of colleague.
The Culture
We did have a fun social time together. We watched the cricket, which was a great evening until it was called off. Leadenhall market was great for lunch and after work, and we would always help each other out when needed. We have social networking chats as well.
Transport was the main cost for me, but London in general will always be expensive. Socialising is costly; even just lunch can border on £10 however if you are clever about it there are cost efficient ways of living.
Leadenhall market is certainly a cool area. It is always thriving, even during the day! I tried to be home around 9pm every day to be fresh the following morning so was not into the nightlife scene as much as I could have. But it seems a lively area.
I participated in the Emerging Ambassadors forum which was a great 'extracurricular' activity. I was the cameraman and met many people through it. If I were to come back I would dive straight into this. I did not get involved in any of the sports aspects within the company.
