The Role
I really enjoyed my internship. It was very interesting and stimulating. Whilst it wasn't very broking related, it was certainly stimulating and varied everyday.
Very valued- certain jobs I was made to do I felt weren't necessarily using my skills correctly, but that i inevitable with an internship. However for other tasks I felt I was given a lot of responsibility on very big projects, which proves that I was valued by my colleagues.
I had a lot of support and guidance from my manager when in the office> However, when they were not in the office, the team is very small and stretched, so sometimes when fewer people were in, the support was less, but not unmanageable.
Certain days were quieter than others, but majority of the time I had plenty of work to do.
During week 2 I was given a huge report to write for external auditors on behalf of the whole company. Therefore, I felt I was given a lot of responsibility.
To some extent the skills I have learnt will help me, especially going into final year/writing a dissertation. However, other skill learnt are more relevant for the future work place rather than university.
The Company
Friendly, social, busy, intelligent. Certain days were very quiet, but that's to be expected during summer.
Very well organised with lots of additional learning sessions provided.
They are paying you for 8 weeks of work when you are in uni, with the opportunity with a job at the end. Each team is different, but maybe there could have been more personal development sessions organised by line managers.
Company Parties/Events
Good. It depends on what departments are hiring graduates as to whether you would want to come back.
The Culture
Yes, but more organised events by HR could have been good
It's the city of London, it' expensive.
City of London, good fun but £££
To an extent, it's probably more available as a grad/not during summer which is quieter months.
