Corporate Risk & Broking Summer Internship Review

It was an enlightening 8 weeks comprising of a range of experiences from working in a team of senior members to employees of similar age, insightful talks from members of various divisions and great networking opportunities with people across the organisation. Great location, work place and people.

Everyone I have encountered, be it the team, group projects, the intern batch, HR or just anyone you bump into, over these weeks have been so welcoming and respectful. If you take the initiative and effort to get to understand their profile, they return the interest and do their best to help you out. This was especially useful when reaching out to senior members of the organisation.

The internal team were great. Very hardworking with hectic schedules yet they give time to explain the work, listen to your ideas, politely feed back improvement areas and appreciate the effort & output, regardless of the quantity.

Usually busy. I never found myself idle, always had work to do. If I finished a given task earlier than expected, I asked for more work and was given it too. Great flexibility, some days could be an easy 9-4/5, some if required had to stay late.

Most of the work I contributed towards was part of a bigger project. So I would like to believe I did valuable work.

I have developed both personal and professional skills such as time and people management which I believe will definitely help me when I get a full position.

My office atmosphere was different compared to the most of the interns I had spoken to. My floor was usually quiet. But that is not to say that people were very gentle, kind and respectful and were always available to help out if you asked for it. I felt it was generally a friendly and healthy place to work in. I was usually sat with my team too.

I have previously done an internship but this summer internship at WIllis Towers Watson was particularly very organised and structured. By mid or the end of the second week I was mostly aware of my schedule for the next 8 weeks and that was very useful to plan and fit other activities in. And 90% of the schedules activities went as per plan and was good fun.

We had a group presentation at the end of the internship, a Dragon's Den kind of set up and we got a presentation skills session for it for around 3 hours outlining how to present from the posture to projecting your voice. We did several activities to generally improve our presentation skills. And it paid off as all of us were presented very well in the real one!

It is a really good organisation with great core values which are actually valued and taken into practice. People, such as your manager, team and HR are very supportive and value good work. I believe they are very flexible placing you around the firm in different divisions and locations, nationally and internationally, etc.

It was good. Its what you made out of it really. But the interns were all very polite and respectful. Made few good friends and we usually spent our free time together. It was great fun and I believe I will stay in contact with them and have the opportunity to connect after and outside the internship. :)

London is quite pricey but manageable if you pay attention to your finances and spend money wisely. My travel and food for the entire 8 weeks was around £600-700. Any additional social are excluded in this estimated cost. Canteen was somewhat expensive too if eaten everyday but they cater a large variety of cuisines on a daily basis and some days cannot be missed!

London definitely has the best nightlife, it is really pretty and can never get bored of. It is again how you manage your time but shops are usually open until late. Transport facilities are good late night (and also better, more peaceful at night). As far as I am aware, it has been safe to travel at night after 10pm.

Only if any events were planned beforehand and by yourself. But during this internship only 2 events were organised by the HR.
