The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship at Willis. I have enjoyed carrying out projects and tasks within the Marine Yacht Team. Highlights include working on client portfolios, preparing for the Monaco Yacht Show, investigating Lloyds Crystal and Risk Locator, investigating new potential prospects using Wealth X as well as going out to the market. It was a fantastic 8 weeks, well run and well structured so that insights are available to the whole industry rather than just a specific area.
Everyone I have seen or worked with has been so willing to give up precious time to explain their role in the business and the industry. Tasks filtered down and colleagues were open to any ideas I might have as they felt exposure was fundamental in the industry. They enjoyed exploring their career paths and how the future might plan out. They also have given advice on the next stages and how best to remain in the Insurance Industry.
My manager was amazing. She would be so willing to let me shadow her, prepare work for clients and introduce me to different people to start off the networking which would be fundamental. Whenever I had a question it was always answered and she didn't mind me taking valuable time from her to gain support. She has guided me and has given me insights into the future which has been great and I will use these for years to come!
On a daily basis, I was constantly busy. I very rarely had any quiet moments especially being apart of the Marine Industry which is going trough a particular interesting time. On the occasion that I needed more work or had finished a task, it was easy to ask for more work . The days and weeks went very quickly as a result of constantly being busy.
I was given great responsibility and exposure in the Industry. This includes working on prospects, client portfolios, underwriting and broking exposures and preparing work for the Monaco Yacht show which is fundamentally a marketing event for Willis Towers Watson.
The skills learnt will help me perform better at my degree. I have had the chance to maximise my work load, manage time and prepare days and weeks in advance for future events. The knowledge learnt will be fundamental for the insurance modules I have as apart of my degree. It will also help us have a leg up on competition for places across the industry as we can relate to the wealth of experience.
The Company
The office had a great atmosphere, it was clear that the team have a lot of fun and enjoy each others company. This has been shown as they all work together and help each other out. Communication is fundamental and everyone seems willing to talk if they have any concerns before renewing and exploring new business. I enjoyed the team night out and being included in the J P Morgan corporate challenge.
The internship was extremely well run, although working in your team was the majority of the internship, 20% of the time was spent on a group project and there was also a speaker series which gives ideas about the future and the different aspects of the industry.
The company invested in the induction days, the socials and the chance to travel to other offices. There was insight from very senior people and this has helped me to learn skills and navigate between different tasks much better.

The future employment looks very exciting and something I would very much like to be apart of if that opportunity arises. Career development is encouraged and everyone seems to move around and explore different tasks and activities. There is clearly never a dull moment and each day is different.
The Culture
There was a very good social scene. The internship socials, the team night out and the ability to meet others for a drink after work was very appetising. Coffee with senior individuals were inspiring and very easy going.
London is an expensive place to live and work but it is buzzing and the atmosphere is well worth the money.
It was very happening and many individuals were doing exactly the same thing. A buzzing atmosphere and clearly some hotspots for the future.
I got involved in the J P Morgan fun run and other team nights out. People were able to join the gym.
