Drug safety scientist Review

i have absolutely loved my time working at Johnson and Johnson. I would happily return to the company once i have completed my degree. The atmosphere of the company is really relaxed and welcoming making it a very enjoyable place to work, everyone was very friendly and the work felt suitable for my level of education.

My colleagues treated me as though i had been there for years and treated me no differently to how they treated each other. I have made some great friends from the company who I frequently see outside of work and will continue to stay in touch with after i leave.

As with any job there were some days busier than others. Due to strict government timelines mondays and fridays tended to be busier than mid week, however the workload was always manageable and predictable. On the busier days I could be working to full capacity but this was balanced out with the more relaxed days where the workload was lighter.

The students within my department were given the same responsibilities as anyone else in the office. I was also able to run my own projects alongside to my day job which was very good as it gave me insights into other parts of the business and gave me more responsibilities.

The atmosphere in the office as a whole was very relaxed and friendly. You could walk down the corridor and people you walked past would say good morning and stop for a chat/coffee. The department atmosphere was also great, everyone was friends so you could have chats about anything whilst doing the work. The company put on a few office events during the year like BBQs and team bonding days which were great fun for everyone.

The placement was well set up. The first 2 weeks were a 'handover' period from the previous students, this was really helpful as it meant that we weren't thrown in at the deep end with the work. There was also a lot of introductions during the first few weeks which were done with all the new students in the building so you got to know them a bit before going off to your own departments.

The company were very good at offering personal development courses and promoting their availability. Many of these courses were 1-2 day courses with 10-20 other staff members, others were online courses. It was also encouraged to shadow other departments within the company to make the most of your placement and help you work out what you are most interested in.

After my experience with the company I would love to return. There are so many different departments that are interesting and have good development pathways. The company have been very good at encouraging shadowing in other departments which helps to develop contacts for potential future work that would otherwise be difficult to find.

The cost of living was higher than i was used to as a student (however I did live in one of the cheapest cities at uni). With the wage provided I never had a problem with being able to pay rent, food or socialise, and could still afford to treat myself every so often.

Not so many clubs, but a lot of pubs very close to home. But if you enjoy clubbing then you could make a short drive to reading or beconsfield or train to london for more than just the pub atmosphere.

The company themselves have a gym onsite that offers gym classes which is a good way to meet other people without taking up too much of your time travelling but also to keep fit. The area has many sports clubs that you could join to meet people outside of work. I was never bored.
