The Role
It was a unique experience to meet people in the bank and to really understand to understand the different positions and how an investment bank works. The hours were tough and the job is demanding but so many events were organised to make us relax. Also it was a great opportunity to have your work evaluated and valued by recognized professionals.
I think people in general in the bank are really welcoming and are quite willing to share moments explaining their tasks and what they expect from you. However, sometimes as a non English native speaker, I felt some people didn't take time to listen to me as it was more difficult to really bond.
My supervisors were really responding to my inquiries and always tried to explain what I needed to do to succeed and gave me valuable feedback.
Depending on the teams, I had longer or shorter tasks. I think overall on a flow desk I didn't have a lot of tasks to complete for the desk as each traders are quite independent and doesn't need a lot of support to work. In structuring I had a longer term project that kept me more busy each time I was at my desk.
I would say that I was more formed than given real responsibilities. Management assigned me tasks as a catalyst to questions for the members of the team to learn more about the job. However, my work was taken seriously even though it wasn't a project decisive for the business.
I think thanks to this internship I understand more the risks and the underlying of trading.
The Company
The atmosphere was sometimes a little bit cold but I think everyone was quite wiling to help and talk at some points.
The organisation was good, I just didn't really understand why nice events in the evening happened during the weeks of presentations and also sometimes there were too many presentations during the day, it was difficult to actually complete some work.
I think the company invest a lot money on us to make sure we find our space in the bank and that we spent a good time.
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
The Culture
I think as my teams were mostly men from another culture and quite older than me, it was quite hard to establish good talks and to really bond.
Mostly sleep.
There was several propositions.
