    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship scheme is well thought out, Nomura treat their interns no different to how they treat their staff. From their mentoring system to their regular talks/ Charity events / intern socials the experience was exceptional. The level of exposure within 10 weeks of working at the company is so valuable. Nomura invest a lot in their interns.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues treated me as if I was an analyst. My opinion was valued and taken into consideration. I felt like a valuable member of the team. My colleagues involved me in all decisions that affected the team. Further to that they also took the time out to support me when I first joined.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager provided me with immediate support when I first joined the company. It was of extreme importance to my manager to make the most out of my internship and ensure I achieved all the goals I intended to achieve. Not only did my manager ensure I was supported, but she went above and beyond to ensure I achieved everything I had hoped too.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • On a daily basis I have been involved in meetings, conference calls, shadowing sessions, training and long term projects. As an intern you are given enough work to keep yourself busy on a daily basis but also enough time to receive a sufficient amount of training and make the most of your internship.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Innovation is valued at Nomura meaning any innovative suggestions are taken on board and even encouraged. I was able to take on the responsibility of seeing through a new system implementation as well as getting involved with every aspect of the project that I was working on. Taking on responsibility is valued.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Working at Nomura made be value the placement/internship scheme. I now understand why my university recommends a year in industry. Despite previously working in an office, doing an internship scheme helped me develop skills that I can use to further my degree. Studying Banking means I can apply these skills to my degree.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • As I assume with all banking office environments the economy is ever changing so the general atmosphere is fast pace. Despite this it is a nice environment to work in, staff are friendly, willing to speak and also willing to discuss their job role. You look forward to going to work in the morning.
