The Role
I really enjoyed my time at Nomura, it has been such a big learning curve. Everyone here has been extremely approachable and supportive, they want you to ask questions and learn. The culture here is amazing, everyone feels included as part of the family no matter what background. Overall, I would definitely recommend.
I would say that everyone in my team were thankful to have me there to help them and I felt like I was really making a difference. Colleagues valued my opinion when it came to tasks and I felt like there was not a hierarchy, everyone was seen on an equal platform in terms of being valued.
I was given constant support and guidance by all members in my team as well as outside of my team. Everyone was more than happy to give me regular catch up meetings to see how well I was doing. I also received the relevant advice when needed and all helped me.
I feel like there was a big vary in terms of how busy I was. Some days I would be staying quite late whereas other days there was not much to do in my team where I could help. In the gaps I would make sure to be doing something so I would try to ask other teams.
I feel as though I was given the right amount of responsibility for my level, enough to push and challenge myself but not too much. Each week I had at least 2 different tasks in which I was solely responsible for. This allowed me to grow as a person.
I truly believe that the skills I have learnt will be applied to all aspects of my life and I cannot be more thankful for this. I have developed as a person both professionally and personally. It is a completely different experience to what I expected but I enjoyed it all.
The Company
The atmosphere depended on the day and events that happened the night before. During the world cup the atmosphere was great but as it is summer more and more colleagues are going away therefore the atmosphere does quiet down a little bit more than usual. But there would be always that one person in the morning to put a smile on everyone's face.
Extremely organised, the constant overview finance sessions were great. Allowed me to learn the true depth of both the company and finance. The mid internship review was helpful to get the feedback necessary to expand on what I have done so far. As well as professional organisation, the socials were also organised extremely well and I always knew what was going on.
In terms of training there was specific two day training sessions which helped give background information. The excel training was good for the everyday tasks. However, there was not that much training in regards to the teams due to lack of time and my manager supported me to train me in the softwares needed. Personal development was good and the company invested a great deal in that with the regular catch ups.

Future employment prospects here at Nomura is very appealing to me. I have enjoyed the experience of feeling almost at home here and being able to be myself. I enjoy the job as a whole as well as the people, culture and atmosphere. I struggle to find a reason why I would not come back.
The Culture
The social scene has been really good. Both with the organisation planning the socials but also amongst the interns. We would eat lunch together most days, go to the pub after work, go out for dinner every fortnight and even already planned a trip to another city for after the internship.
In terms of cost it is pricey however that is because of the location. Central London will be pricey and it comes to no surprise, there will be some places you can find that are less costly than others. I would advise someone to be aware of these costs and to find the less pricey places.
In terms of nightlife it is hard to find the same atmosphere as university, it is going to be different. Thursday and Friday nights are the liveliest especially because there are pubs and bars near by. On other days it is usually quite quiet as people will only be travelling to go home.
I feel like it is quite hard to get involved if you are only here for 10 weeks however there were still a few things to do. Such as, the JP Morgan 5K run, volunteering and socials. There are many opportunities for employees such as going into schools and mentoring students.
