The Role
The people on the team were very nice. There was a very broad variety of work available across the department. The project I was allocated was really interesting and allowed me to develop a lot of new technical skills, including VBA coding. Good trust put in the interns to allow us to learn.
I felt very valued by my colleagues, especially those with whom I worked closely with. This was reflected in my feedback where they said my work was very much appreciated on the project and I helped to drive it forward etc. Good community atmosphere within the economics community of practice.
I received good support and guidance from my people manager as well as from my buddy who was there for more informal questions and advice. I caught up with them on a weekly or biweekly basis. I also had good contact with the manager and director on my project which was appreciated.
Due to the nature of the project I was on, there were busier days and quieter days. However, I enjoyed the busier periods of the internship as I felt I was learning more and contributing more to the project. There was always more work available if I found myself with not much to do.
I was given a high level of responsibility on my project and was responsible for creating a number of key deliverables. I did work quite closely with a senior associate but I still had a piece of work carved out as my own. It shows good trust is put in the interns.
Some of the technical skills that I improved and developed during the internship will be very useful in my degree and later on. Particularly learning how to code in VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) has been very rewarding and I expect to use this when suing Excel in the future.
