The Role
I think the work I was doing wasn't ground breaking, I probably wouldn't do it as a job, but they spent a lot of time with us helping us to understand the technical side of what I was doing and I really felt like I walked away having gained a lot of useful knowledge for the future.
Brilliant culture, never felt like they were setting us with crazy amounts of work but they were very welcoming for anytime we wanted more or if we wanted to take time to set up meeting in other areas to get more knowledge. I felt like they really cared about helping me make the most of my time with them and they were very supportive me taking time out to go talk to completely separate teams.
A lot of time was spent with us helping us to learn about the business so we had a deeper understanding of what I was looking at. This was purely in the market risk reporting team however so I'm not sure the extent to which this happened outside of my team. My manager consistently met with me every week to make sure I was progressing well and the sort of things I was interested in getting involved in.
Always had something to do but never asked to work later than 5. I worked later on some days but that was completely from personal choice.
We were given many opportunities to present important data to the team and chase up other teams about issues. Was often help with guidance to what we were doing but largely felt responsible for important aspects of the data being reported.
Wouldn't really help with my degree at all but the reference and the knowledge from my time here will definitely help me in the coming year as I look towards applying for my first job. Maybe not for life, but has been still extremely important.
The Company
Wasn't super lively in the office. Everyone was very nice and welcoming but was still work focused. However, on 3 occasions we were given the day off for team organised fun days such as going to a charity farm and a divisional boat cruised where we played games and socialised.
We were given work but overall we were left to our own devices. I appreciated this because it gave me a lot of freedom to do things that I was interest in and that appeared to be the point, that the team just said for us to get involved and help out in any areas that we were attracted to. I liked this but I can see how some people might appreciate something a little more structured. In market risk reporting it didn't seem to matter as much because lots was happening, so it never seemed boring.
Lot of time and training was given to me. Even getting access to people which seemed very difficult to meet, if I spent a little bit of time chasing it I was almost always given opportunities to develop and learn. I definitely am walking away having gained a lot.

If I applied to stay on with my specific branch then it is very likely I could get a job. However, I wanted to move across to one of the other branches and apply for interviews. I was told that it was impossible to do this. I'll apply from the outside but it is disappointing that this system is in place.
The Culture
We were all living together so we constantly went out. However, I knew no people from any placement outside of Leeds. We also created the social scene ourselves so if next year has quieter interns then I can imagine there not being as much of a social aspect. Wish LBC had taken more time to introduce us all to each other at the beginning.
Leads is pretty cheap and there's tons of places to go out. LBC also paid for our accommodation.
Very lively place. Lots of bars and loads of clubs. Would literally be thousands of people our on a Friday night.
Not much on outside of work. I found a Lloyds football team but that was with guys from the office and I had to find out about that myself, it wasn't something that was specifically organised.
