    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have enjoyed the internship very much. I was involved in various projects with different colleagues of the teams, which provides a very good overview of what the team is doing. Also I had the possibility to work with some colleagues abroad and from other departments. Moreover, I did a lot of data analysis, which I personally liked.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The colleagues are really nice and approachable. They encourage you to ask every question you have and also put some time in the calendar for you. Also they appreciate your support and give you feedback directly after you have finished your work. It feels like they really see you as a part of the team.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Especially in the beginning everybody is trying to support you and offers help if needed. So you can easily go back and ask questions (which is also highly appreciated). Furthermore, a buddy programme is established, which provides you a first point of contact for any questions, in terms of work and the bank environment. Overall great support, you just have to ask.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • In my opinion there is a good balance between having enough time for each task and also to question the reasoning behind it and tasks, which have to be done quickly. Usually you do not have time pressure and can do the work in you own pace. Basically, you determine how busy you are by asking for more work.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Honestly, starting from day one, you are responsible for your own task. You have to organize and manage yourself and figure out how to achieve your goal (also with support from the team). This means the team trusts you that you find your own way, which gives you a kind of freedom and challenges your mind.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Overall there are a lot of trainings provided by BAML. On the one hand you have the department specific trainings, which are established for all new hires. On the other side you have the intern events. These events are usually focusing on different topics, so that you can get a impression how the whole bank works.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very good atmosphere in the office. Everybody is very friendly and interested in your personality and what is your motivation to work at a bank. So you feel welcome and appreciated. Also your colleagues encourage you to sit down with them to explain what their work is about and how this is connected to what your team is doing.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The onboarding process started really early (beginning of the year for the summer internship). This means it is well planned and all onboarding tasks are communicated clearly. Also you can always ask if you have some additional questions. Additionally, during the internship you have regular catch-ups with our HR Manager to ensure that your feeling comfortable within the company.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invested a lot of time in you by providing a lot of training sessions, organized either by your specific department or HR. Also you have to specify your personal objectives at the beginning of the internship. Then, you and your manager trying to achieve this goals during your internship to improve your skills.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Actually they are doing the internship because they are looking constantly for new graduates to join. Therefore, there the summer internship is probably the best way to get into the company because the team has the possibility to get you know and also you can experience how it is to work there.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We have started the internship with a induction week, where we were able to meet all the fellow interns. So you definitely make some friends, because most of the other interns are also new to the city. So you have the possibility to go for a drink after work and also explore the city on the weekend with them.
