The Role
People in in the office were very friendly, while my supervisors made sure that I always understood what I was doing with a good amount of work provided to help me progress into the next years at university. The work also gave me a chance to apply what I had learnt at university and see that what I was doing was worth while.
As a first year, it would be hard for them to find work for me to complete, however they did manage to and made sure that it was important to do. There was also a suitable amount of responsibility given to me so that I go a good feel for working.
They were always on hand to answer any queries I had and to provide relevent work from the project they were working on, so the work actually had some value. This also meant they could help prepare me for the coming years in university. Overall, the guidance/ support was very good throughout the placement.
This could vary greatly throughout the placement depending on what needed to be completed. It felt like a good time to be there as there was more often than not work for me to do for which I had an understanding. there was the occasional time where there might not have been enough to do, but I never felt overwhelmed by the tasks.
From the start, it felt like I had some responsibility as revelent work from the project was provided. As time went on, I felt like I had a bit more and was trusted to complete more tasks. However, due to the part of the degree I am in, there wasn't much responsibility to be given to me.
As the supervisors had an idea of what was to come in my degree, they were able to provide good work based on it so I was able to learn while also working. They also had training for programs that would be used in future years so that I could be prepared for both university as well as actual work.
The Company
Overall, the atmosphere was very friendly and positive. While at times it was quiet due to people having holidays throughout summer, there were always people having conversations and trying to be positive about work. So, the atmosphere was good for an office as it was mostly very relaxed and calm
Most people in the office knew when I was starting, and so supervisors were in place to welcome me to the office, show me around and help set things up. Due to the nature of the work, I felt that the supervisors tried their best to make sure it was organised enough for me to help and complete work.
Having a graduate as my main supervisior meant they understood what I was capable of as well as what I would need to learn. Also, even having the placement as a first year meant that the company were prepared to help develop me for the work. these two things show that the company are interested in developing upcoming workers.
The star rating description doesn't match the question well. A future job with the company does seem feasible as it is positive and does want to help newer workers get more into the trade. But at this early stage it is hard for me to say whether future employment would be appealing, more experience will tell.
The Culture
I travelled a long way from home each day, so I cannot say too much on this as I unfortunately didn't spend much time there outside of the work. It is possible it could have been good, but due to the area it probably would have been expensive to go out.
