The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement in LBG. All teams were lovely and incredibly welcoming. They were extremely helpful in terms of helping me with any tasks I needed assistance on and explaining their roles within the bank to further my knowledge on the banking industry, as I do not come from a study background to do with banking.
The colleagues made me feel like a valued team member. They would take an hour out of their busy days when first meeting me and sit down and get to know my skills and interests, while explaining their roles to me. Together we would work out any tasks they feel suited me best that I could possibly assist them on.
My colleagues were absolutely fantastic at offering support and guidance, whether it be on the current task I'm working on, the bank, or even university and life in general! The advice they offered was always very useful and they really tried to make sure it was related to me and the situation.
I was always busy enough that I had something to do, but I was never overwhelmed. This was great as it is my first ever internship and first time working in a professional environment, also while moving to a new country for the first time. My manager made sure to keep me busy but as he kept all this in mind, never too much that I couldn't cope with it, which was really great!
I was able assist on many tasks, that are due to be implemented soon after the end of my internship, knowing my work will be continued to be put to use within the bank is great! I was also given the opportunity to lead and organise out 'Day to Make a Difference', this was a great task as I really got to show initiative and work myself! Other than that I was mostly assisting in bigger tasks.
This experience was a great asset to my future studies and a fantastic insight to what a professional working environment is like, which is a great thing to know before you dive into the real working world. This internship has taught me how to better manage my time, improved my confidence when speaking to new people and showed me the importance of networking and making connections.
The Company
The atmosphere was in the office was always very friendly and relaxed, making me feel immediately at ease. When I walked in my team always had smiles on their faces and would say good morning and have a chat with me, this made me feel so welcomed and helped me settle into the office much faster.
I feel the internship was organised very well. We knew our role placement and where we were staying in plenty time, received regular update emails, had introductory Webex calls with any information and that we could ask questions on and have our line manager/mentor to ask any further questions that pop up. The only problem I had was with documents I had already emailed over being asked for multiple times from different people from the same group.
My team were amazing for helping me grow and develop my knowledge of the banking world. They allowed me to travel to several different offices, including ones in Birmingham, London, Edinburgh and Manchester. This allowed me to get a far more rounded experience from this internship as I got to speak to many different people from all over the bank.

I am very much looking forward to my second internship with LBG in the near future, I have learned and developed so much in this short time and cannot wait to see what's on store for my future internship and beyond. If my new team is half as welcoming I know it will be a great experience.
The Culture
All of the other interns on the programme were so lovely and we made sure to make time to see each other after work and on the weekends. It was so great to be placed in the same accommodation as everyone, this made socialising much easier and made the idea of moving much less frightening.
Bristol is about the same price as where I live in Scotland, nothing special but nothing extortionate. With a good budget and make an effort to learn cost effective places, you can live very affordably, which is great when you're a student trying to save for another year of university.
Nothing special but there was some good places in town if you looked.
I personally wasn't looking for any opportunities as I was pretty busy most of the summer with other things and pre planned events.
