The Role
The people were fantastic to work with providing me with support and taking the time to teach me things that I didnt know. Due to the speciality of the internship it could be confusing at stages and some parts werent necessarily related to my degree so could be confusing but overall it was an interesting and insightful experience
Very supportive and helped to create an enjoyable working environment
Sometimes it could be very busy on site but in calm moments my supervisor always checked on me and helped me whenever I asked
Some days can be quieter than others due to the nature of work at a power station and partially due to my lack of interest in the tasks given but it was all helpful experience
Oversight was required along with verification because if something went wrong in what I was doing it could cause an incident but I was given as much responsibility as they were able
I learnt a lot about how I learn and how I approach tasks which will help with assignments and exams but also in my future career where I will know what I am good at already
The Company
Breaks were taken to ensure no one worked too hard and everyone was chatty and inclusive
Due to the security clearance issues there were some parts that got complicated but this was not my employers fault
I have training that will be valid for three years if I wish to come back and security clearance. All of this will be helpful for a job at any location within this strand of EDF
Subsidised Canteen
There are other options I am pursuing but is definitely an option with the possibility of different locations
The Culture
I wasnt there very long but lunch was always eaten together and there were regular small socials such as movies etc to get to know them better
Kent is a relatively expensive place compared to my university area but my house share was good value for money so it was a balance
Didnt take too much advantage of it as my friends were back home so I went back regularly but the town itself and surrounding area was said to be good
With the other graduates and placement students yes but at work people live quite far from each other in some cases
