    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed this summer internship and it exceeded my expectations in every way. There were fast paced days which were highly enjoyable and there were slow days where time stood still. The skills that I have gained and the Network that I have grown will be valuable no matter what I decide to do in the future. I have worked on numerous tasks that stimulated me intellectually and helped me grow as a person. Overall a very satisfying experience.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The Internship started slow and due to hotdesking and my manager being on leave in my first week, I initially felt undervalued. However, this soon changed in the second week of my rotation as I demonstrated high quality work at a fast pace which enabled me to be tasked with projects of high importance. I was constantly working on tasks that were otherwise completed by much senior members of the team.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The Mentoring scheme was probably the best thing about the whole internship as I learnt a lot from my mentor both about banking as well as life generally. All of my managers were just beyond amazing giving me support and guidance whenever I was stuck. There was never a fear of asking questions or for help and I felt comfortable all the time.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • In all honesty I would have preferred to be much more busier on a daily basis but that is mainly because I love being super busy and efficient. Because I completed most of my tasks way ahead of schedule, it was difficult for my managers to keep assigning new projects. I took the initiative to do tasks for people that were not on my core teams which were highly beneficial to me in terms of developing my skills and experience.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given huge responsibility as an intern as I worked on a very important project which laid down the foundation for the planning process for the current audit the Global Markets Audit teams were working on. My work was then implemented and I was allowed to sit in on meetings even after my rotation was over (during rotation 2) so I could see the result of my work. In my second rotation I was entrusted with creating a sourcing lifecycle process flow which will be used by my team and potentially for anyone that works on a Vendor audit. This was a huge project with several drafts which I worked on for the best part of 3 weeks and continuously improved after feedback received in team meetings. In terms of responsibility I could not have asked for more. Not once was I asked to a menial task like getting the coffee or making photocopies.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I am not sure about this as I study a subject that has nothing got to do with my internship. However, my excel skills have improved and I learnt how to pivot data and manipulate data on excel, which can help me with writing lab reports in my course as well as my dissertation. Beyond that the skills will be hugely beneficial if I go on to do the Graduate programme or if I end up doing something else.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Amazing atmosphere. Simply Amazing. Made good friends and acquaintances in a short period of time as well as mentors that inspire me. I will definitely keep in touch with a lot of the people I got to know. Everyone was friendly and they always looked out for me and the other interns and there was not an ounce of micromanagement or hostility towards managers.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well organised, can't say much more on that. Encountered no problems or cause for frustration.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • A huge amount, provided with high quality training so I can do the work with relative ease. My mentor and buddy helped me adjust to the corporate work life.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing, I would love to work for the company but not sure if I want to stay in the same division. I am confident in receiving a grad offer from them after receiving positive feedback from my managers/team.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, even though I don't drink, there were still opportunities for me to go on socials with my team as well as hang out with interns. I watched a couple of World Cup games with some of the interns. Team lunches were really nice and a good way to get to know your team personally. I also went to a darts and drinks social which was just a fantastic night out that I won't forget anytime soon. Also played beach volleyball with some colleagues in my department where I met people that I normally would not have otherwise. There was also a team day which was brilliant as I met so many new people.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived at home with my parents so can't comment on that. I didn't spend on socialising that much as I didn't drink. Food was reasonably priced, as I am used to London prices.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I didn't participate in the nightlife.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, We had a team day, CSR day, Beach Volleyball, Darts and Drinks social and team lunches.
