The Role
Really enjoyed my placement. It was really useful having two rotations, I got to see how two different asset classes worked but was still at each desk long enough for depth.
I was given work that was actively linked with the work the desk were doing. Every task I was given felt useful, in both contributing to the desk and learning for myself.
Both of my supervisors were extremely helpful and supportive throughout my rotations. I felt I built up trust over the weeks I spent on both desks. I hope to stay in contact with them even after my internship.
I was given daily objectives as well as long term goals. We were set a goal to meet with a number of senior managers across the bank which encouraged us to network outside our own departments.
I was given responsibility from almost the first week. I sent out daily commentary and shadow-priced alongside the traders, double checking and learning as I did so.
Having completed a degree in mathematics, I felt my analytical skills were of huge benefit to me during my time here.
The Company
It was a very fun atmosphere on the trading floor. People on the desk were always interested in my background and how I came to be at MUFG.
Both desks always took the time ot explain what was going on and how to approach each trade differently. I never felt completely overwhelmed or out of my depth. Although the work was challenging, I felt there was always someone to ask for help or guidance.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
The Bank side seemed to have plenty of headcount and were actively looking for graduates.
The Culture
As a group, the interns were quite close. We had networking events throughout the summer that helped everyone get to know each other.
I lived pretty close to the office so didn't have any transport costs. The canteen in MUFG was subsidised so there was good, cheap food.
There were plenty of bars near the office.
We always had the weekends to socialise.
