The Role
Really good experience-got a useful insight into banking and worked with some amazing people
In my first rotation I felt really valued and could see directly how my efforts had helped them in their work. I still saw how I helped my colleagues in my second rotation but I didn't feel like I was able to make as much of an impact.
Thanks to the senior management initiative (have to talk to at least 10 senior managers during the internship) I was able to ask anyone questions and everyone was friendly and open when I asked for their help- it seemed like people genuinely enjoyed taking the time out to answer a younger person's questions.
The first rotation was well organised and I constantly had work to do. In my second rotation I found myself having to nag people for work more which became a bit tiring in the end.
I could see how some of the work I was doing directly impacted pitch books and information given in client meetings.
I've developed a lot of confidence over the ten weeks, and learned what my skills and limitations are. Now I know what I need to work on but have also learned that I'm better at some things than I'd thought. The training we've received has given me a basic knowledge about financial products and instruments which will definitely help me out in my future career.
The Company
Open and friendly in both departments I worked in. My first department was a bit livelier than the second, but it's difficult to get a true feeling of how the departments usually are because it's quieter in summer.
HR ensured there was a structure to the internship. I found that sometimes the individual departments didn't execute it as well as they possibly could have done (hence me sometimes having to nag for work).
A lot. We had a week of external training in the beginning, then two days of internal credit training, and a few external training sessions throughout the remaining weeks.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
The grad scheme is well organised
The Culture
Yes. There were a few organised events by HR but people would meet up for lunch and after work as well.
Very expensive because it's the centre of London
It's in the centre of London so really good
A few yes. There were two events organised by HR for interns specifically, a CSR event at a city farm and a charity day which included an abseil down the side of the building.
