The Role
The culture and people was one of the main highlights of the internships. People were friendly and welcoming. Always willing to help out with any questions and explain what they do to you. HR also organised a joint intern project to help the interns gain a better understanding of the different products within MUFG. The encouragement of meeting with senior management during the internship made the atmosphere that much more welcoming and friendly.
My colleagues always made an effort to include the interns in meetings where they thought to be beneficial. Outside of organised meetings, colleagues would arrange to meet up with interns and invite them to team social events during the 10 weeks. My colleagues also made an effort to make I had the required support and access to resources when completing projects.
I was given significant support by my colleagues and guidance by my colleagues. Especially during project work, my colleagues ensured to answer any queries I had and that I had access to all the relevant resources. My line manager also ensured to have regular meetings with me throughout the internship to check up on my progress and projects.
I was quite busy as I was given multiple projects by my team alongside a HR project that was to be completed with interns from other departments. Alongside these numerous projects, I did ad hoc work for different teams within my department to help out with any work load or urgent work.
In my second rotation, I had more project focused work that was tailored to the intern programme and not to be used for the department directly. However the projects conducted would be used as research for the team for its work, which allowed me to have some responsibility within the team. In my first rotation, I did work alongside the teams but the work done would be checked and edited by the relevant colleagues prior to its submission.
I gained a greater knowledge of the department I was working in - particularly the industry standards for systems and procedures used in banks. My analytical skills, particularly the use of excel improved dramatically. I also gained greater knowledge of the roles and work the different teams within my department conducted, such as their project work and daily transactions.
The Company
The general atmosphere of the office was friendly and welcoming whilst still working very hard to achieve business goals. Colleagues were always happy to help with any questions and frequently invited interns within the department for team social events and meetings to ensure interns feel included within the team and get the most out of their 10 weeks in the bank.
The internship was very well set up and organised with a formal training week on the financial markets / products / industry by an external company. Also had arranged networking events with our allocated buddys and line managers in our two rotations. HR also organised talks about the different departments in the bank to expand our financial knowledge.
The bank invests lots of time into the interns through arranging talks outlining the multiple areas / departments within the bank, networking events with line managers and colleagues from multiple departments, organised lunches with heads within the bank and much more. HR also organises social events for the interns to allow networking. Also had a week of formal training from an external trainer on the financial industry in the beginning of the internship.

Company Parties/Events
Yet to hear back from employment prospects for the graduate scheme. But the investment HR and the bank makes towards interns creates positive employee atmospheres and I would be happy to back. Throughout the bank you can tell people are happy to talk to you and interact with you as if you are a normal employee.
The Culture
The intern group was medium sized allowing for events/meet ups between interns to be conducted throughout the internship. The organised HR/Bank networking and social events also made a good social scene between other students and colleagues. The atmosphere at these events have always been positive and welcoming towards all the interns.
London on average has a much higher cost of living in comparison to other areas in the UK. Unsurprisingly the cost of living and socialising costs are much higher in comparison to other cities. However for London standards, it wasn't exceedingly higher or lower than my expectations when moving to London.
London nightlife is good but expensive in comparison to other cities in the UK. But during an internship you are working 5 days a week so it is unlikely to go out into the London nightlife scene during weekdays. Overall London nightlife is very enjoyable but prices are higher than expected
There were opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work for instance the arranged dinner and bowling event by HR during the internship for the whole intern group. The teams / departments I worked in also organised team drinks or meals that I was also invited to get involved in.
