The Role
Throughout the internship I was exposed to different, interesting parts of the business and worked with many people, so that gave me enough exposure to get insight into the industry and made me thoroughly enjoy all 9 weeks of the internship
I was incorporated into workstreams quickly and given progressively more responsibility on a variety of projects by different colleagues
Managers knew very well to distinguish between when we needed extended input and guidance and when it would be beneficial for us to work and discover on our own. In all cases they stayed approachable and provided help when needed.
Even though it was during the usually somewhat lighter summer period, I rarely had moments of boredom or lack of work. The amount of work was usually a challenge on tight deadlines but expectations of managers were reasonable
Obviously not running the show but in terms of the responsibility you can get as an intern it was a lot, working on client documents directly and in close contact with very senior bankers
Entering a finance related postgraduate degree this internship 100% provided me a very practical look at how things are done, which I will now be able to complement and expand with a more theoretical viewpoint
The Company
In the office and especially my team the atmosphere was great, especially during the late hours as everybody was in the same boat and helped each other by creating a relaxed feeling
HR didn't leave anything up to chance, from day one to the last day everything was perfectly organized and included a wide range of activities including guest speaker series and introductions to different parts of the bank
Enough for an intern. Basic insights into the necessary tools at work were provided, but the internship was more of a learning by doing experience rather than being provided personal training and development
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym

Working from home
Very high, given organization, colleagues, senior leadership and workplace conditions
The Culture
It was amazing, during all social events people from different divisions mixed well and got along great
Given it was London it was obviously expensive but manageable, infinite social opportunities available in this city
Stone's throw away from Shoreditch and an active atmosphere at Broadgate circle during afterwork hours
Long working hours in the investment bank are a given and take up much of your day, but Fridays and weekends were great opportunities to catch up
