    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed the whole of my 2 month internship due to the work, the people and the company itself. I was trusted with real work that was needed by my colleagues and so I could get a real feel for the work they do day to day. Everyone made me feel really welcome and were always willing to sit down with me and help me understand things further.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues made me feel like a real member of the team and not that I was just an Intern. I was trusted and given real work of value to the teams I worked in. My colleagues would always want to give me as many opportunities as possible and would encourage me to work shadow and attend various meetings.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was extremely helpful and nice and provided a lot of support and guidance. I would meet with my manager at least once a week to go through what I had been doing and if I had any concerns or questions. My manager set up a lot of work shadowing for me so I could get a real feel of the business.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My day to day tasks would vary, therefore some days I would be quite busy working the whole day and others I might find some extra time to meet new people and network, and do courses online at UBS University. I had a good amount of work were I could feel busy in the day but the time the day/week was over it would all be finished.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given quite a bit of responsibility in my internship. I would do real tasks that my manger would need or that other members of the team would have done. I would research and complete work that was to be used in the future my people in the business. For example I checked Equities Complaints and made a procedure for this to be used in Mumbai

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I have learnt on my internship have been and will be extremely useful to me long beyond my internship. They will help me in university as I have developed my analytical and qualitative skills, ones which I really struggled with in the past, this will also help me in future jobs. I have also grown my confidence and presentation skills, key abilities in any job and at university.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was very well organized. There was a set out structure with a full week of induction to get you comfortable in the business. You have a mid way and finale evaluation with your Line Manager and HR which helps you get the most out of your internship by setting your strengths and areas which you want to improve.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There is a good social scene amongst fellow placement students and fellow colleagues. Everyone wants to get to know you more and this helps you to feel more comfortable working and working in your team. I attended many socials with my team, other teams and with the other interns and placement students.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It was very expensive to live and socialize in the area I did. UBS is in the center of the business hub of London and so it can be extremely expensive. Rent is expensive but UBS try and help you as much as possible my offering various student accommodations you can live in throughout the internship.

  • London is a great place for additional opprotuities outside or work and so there are always more things to do and see. UBS also have certain discounts and offers for additional activities out of work, for example art galleries, that make things a lot more affordable for you to do.
