The Role
I have really enjoyed the summer I have spent at Deutsche Bank, I have been able to meet and network with people from all over the world and from a variety of backgrounds. It has been interesting and fun; it has really given me a deep insight to the world of banking.
My colleagues and team members have made me feel very valued. I was very warmly welcomed into my team and they have made work very enjoyable. I was always included and made to feel a part of the team from the very first day; I was invited to all the team meetings from the start of my internship. I feel this helped me a lot as I was able to meet my team members who weren’t based in the same location as me.
Although my manager was understandably very busy due to his responsibilities, he always made time for me and checked up on me to see how I was doing. We would have regular catch up sessions with my manager and this gave me a lot of guidance as I was able to see how I could improve my work. Another good thing was that I was allowed to explore more areas of my team and could learn about what the other responsibilities were and could see the bigger picture of how my work effects the rest of my team and the bank.
I was kept very busy on a day to day basis. Due to the nature of my role there was a lot of structure in my day which included daily report generation and regular meetings. Having said this, there was much variety in my role. My days included using the team’s technology to generate reports, and have meetings where we would discuss the reports content.
I was surprised how much responsibility I was given from the first day. It was great because it allowed me to learn new skills. Some of the tasks I was given were important to the team and had deadline associated with it. It allowed me to learn to work under pressure and to then deliver this. I would have thought I would just be assisting with tasks – but I was actually given ownership on different tasks.
The skills I developed I will be able to take further as they are transferrable skills. I was introduced into new concepts and technologies, this has given me an excellent foundation to learn more and I will be able to take this knowledge back to university. It has allowed me to understand the practical uses and why they are used in real life scenarios. The training was excellent and something I can keep with me and aids to my self-development.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was fun and encouraging, it was a nurturing place where I had the freedom to ask as many questions as I liked. It was generally a fun place to work as everyone was supportive of one another. I would love to come back and work here again.
I think the internship had an excellent structure. It was very well organised and there were regular intern related sessions such as “Hot topics” and a wide range of socials throughout the internship. Within my team, there was a lot of organisation and structure. Clear objectives were set for me so that I knew what I needed to achieve.
I feel Deutsche Bank are committed to training and developing new talent which has been clear to see in my time at the bank. Our first 2 weeks involved division wide training where were learnt about the bank as a whole. Our second week was division specific and taught the skills we needed to get through the internship. Even during our internship, there were sessions on how to improve our presenting skills.
Company Parties/Events
Due to the nature of it being an internship, the employment opportunities do seem positive as there is a chance to convert the scheme into a full time position in the bank. I would be really to begin my career here at the bank. There is also a wide variety of teams and roles on offer at the bank.
The Culture
There was a good social scene amongst the fellow interns and colleagues. There would be regular meet ups after work to catch up and unwind. The internship had a mid-internship social as well as an end of internship social. It provides a good chance to have informal chats and to get to know one another.

As the office is based in canary wharf the price of living here can be fairly high. There are more affordable options, but this may involve a commute. It is a nice area to socialise in, there are many restaurants to go to in the immediate area. As the office is located near central London there are many places to go to. There are many groups at the bank which offer activities outside of work, there is a wide variety of opportunities. Sometime grads and interns will organise their own events where everyone is available to attend. For example, there are many CSR days where employees can get involved with the local community to help the surrounding area. This involved helping local school and clearing litter from the park.
